I disagree. Digital art is a fantastic medium, and people do "progress" through it.
Honestly, I don't care about your opinion on what is art, and what isn't. In any case, I haven't seen any of your art, so until you can show your credentials, i don't think I can take you seriously. As for me, I will be exploring all mediums because I am open minded to new ideas, and different art forms. Have fun limiting yourself.
@fataloxygen To say it serves absolutely no purpose is a bit extreme. Just as you have mentioned, it's purpose seems quite evident in the video gaming industry and respective companies. I'm also quite sure that it is too early to judge whether or not the art will have an impact on the future. The medium itself was introduced fairly recently, after all. I do admit, the artist in this video uses quite a few tools that I do not agree with as a traditional artist.
@Entarichu except a modern vincent wouldnt be using a computer to do all the work. lets see this painted by hand, without the help of computer replacing and morphing all your mistakes.
@octofunkadelic It is not the tools that make the artist, but how you use it..., your skills in art transition to any medium, granted if you've only been a digital artist without ever touching a pencil or a brush it takes getting used to.
However knowledge of composition, perspective, color theory, anatomy, line quality etc that is gained over the years can be applied anywhere. Btw this man knows how to work with a pencil and paper.
this was pretty sweet. I am not very familiar with his work so I thought he was originally using all the various spheres and pyramids as a tool to help him envision light, but looking at the rest of his work, I see the point is to incorporate shapes.
the combination of zbrush and photoshop was phenomenal. Also, I'd never seen distorting used quite like that to get the volume closer to reality. Really eye opening. I can see how 1000 of those helps a person perfect a technique.
I have no idea what just happened. Like I got it all the way up to you did the 3d shit and then thats when you turned into 'android'
It was all very awesome and I would have stopped and called the picture done many times before you actually finished but that's because I'm not awesome.
Thank you very much for posting! Please post moar! I need to understand :(

you guys didn't understand the 3d, because it's actually 2.5d... HEH
the skull was a base shape for those geometric shapes to have surface placement aligning to his face....
because that's how we look in higher dimensions, android is just tapping into that =)
