I learned to play this main riff in single notes too, not by strumming and muting all 6 strings like John.

but it's right, it's not yhe bass part. because we don't play this riff with slap xDD

and we play 9 fret of G string in the third part of the riff.

Good, overall... I guess. On the verses, you got the right notes, and strings for the most part... but the actual way to play it is to strum all the strings, and mute the ones you don't want to ring out, not just one by one... you're playing Can't Stop like John plays Scar Tissue.

The nuances of Chili Pepper songs are what really makes it pop though, and you're not going to get that from this lesson.

To get the funky tone mute all the strings with a barre and only hit the notes you want, so it sounds like you get one note surrounded with a big funky flat pick.

Also, to do this muting, it makes it easier to play the D as the 5th of the A string.

Other than that this is great, it got me started on this song... well done.... and nice strat!

on the contrary, to play the D bit of the verse, use your thumb to mute the E and A strings, and your index to mute high E, B and G. leaving the D open. its easier, and you dont have to move up or down the neck

@grrgrralex I, personally, just looked up the tabs and used one finger to play one note. For each note I played, I laid my finger lightly across all the other strings so that they'd become muted. This method is time consuming, but it's good practice for learning how to mute many notes at the same time. I could make a video to show you what I mean

i know how its god damm played, but to get the exact timing and tone as the original recording you do need to practice it a bit, to get the right ammount of strums, and the right weight on each note, its easy to play somthing that sounds eighty percent the same, but to get it to sound correct takes more practice, not even frusciante plays it like it is on the cd, he usually omits a few notes and changes the strumming to make it simpler to peform live
