The top 5 is correct, The Jackson 5, The Beatles and The Monkees are the pioneers but Nkotb pretty much started all the later boy bands. It was because of them they were formed, they do deserve credit for that. I mean the inspiration for all the later groups were inspired by The New Kids, just sayin' give credit where it's do

The Beatles and Jackson 5 are pioneers of the boybands, but they were not really termed as such. New Kids, Take That and their successors were the ones called boybands. 'boyband' is a 1990s term.

Respond to this video... cont. At the height of both BSB and N'sync' s fame they were continually at odds with each other causing epic fan wars, battleing on TRL, and of course Record sales. In terms of album sales and world wide popularity BSB clearly come out the winners but it was a bloody battle here in the states for a while. Anyway, these are some of the factors I considered when making this list from "An American" standpoint but like you said. feel free to disagree. ;]

Respond to this video... Cont. The influence of NKOTB was staggering. A slew of European groups would follow after their success, the most notable being Take That. TT started an entire Phenomenon, mostly in U.K....BSB took it to a new level in the 90's causing the reinsurgence of Boy Bands in the U.S. Westlife are a worthy group but are mostly unknown( commercially) here in the states. N'Sync were always the thorn in BSB's side,the only other bb to give the boys some real competition.

@pandaplutten The Beatles were the template for Boy Bands to come but evolved to be so much more so I didn't included them. The Beatles were pretty much the most influential band in the history of popular music, the J5 being an R&B cross over act had their share of influence aswell but mostly stayed in the realm of bubblegum pop. The success of the J5 then lead to the formation of New Edition, that lead to the creation of NKOTB which were arguably the 1st successful modern "pop" boy band".

I don't get this. How is Jackson 5 considered a boy band? In my opinion boy bands are Backstreet boys, west life etc… anyways my top 5 list goes 5.Take That, 4.Nsync, 3.New Kids On The Block, 2.West Life, 1. Backstreet Boys. Them plus Boyzone are what I considered real boy bands.

Boyz 2 men are an R&B act but had massive success on the pop charts and with a young audience as well as new edition, groups like Troop Jodeci &112, appeal to a more mature audience, while acts like hive five and soul for real were successful R&B acts not pop...The " Boy Bands" I've listed are synonymous with pop acts like Backstreet Boys & N'sync,

Statements like those only serve to make yourself not credible.
