I´m sorry to say that but you´re wrong. It´s well known Mariah has nodules. She has developed them as a child and she learned to sing through them. And that´s why she is scared to remove them, because she fears she won´t be able to hit the high notes anymore.
Julie Andrews is a good example. Removing the nodules had ruined her voice!

@Kijjapong thank you for clearing that up for everyone who's not up to speed with the singing voice, nodules swell and it makes it difficult to sing, so over time they only become worst especially for an international artist such as mariah carey, who doesn't really get to rest her voice that often because she is constantly touring and selling records, she always gives her fans the best of her and i appreciate her fot that.
@dm3889 Yes they are just like calluses you would get on your hands from performing repeated manual labour. If you catch nodules quickly enough you can rest your voice and they sometimes go away completely. However if you're not in a position to do that, just like with your hands, the skin continues to harden and thicken up. As this continues the vocal quality deteriorates and the nodules will no longer disappear of their own accord, this is when you need potentially dangerous surgery.
@assimilation I so torn about the whole situation, on one hand i want her to have them removed, but on the other hand im so scared that she will lose her singing voice, but thank about the richness of her voice if its successful, my favorite time vocally for her is music box to daydream.

It's the same with Whitney, both of their voices are quite poor today and, as they are now, I don't find much pleasure in listening to either of them perform. I love Mariah Carey no matter what her voice has brought me through some seriously hard moments and I commend her strength in spite of people turning their backs on her due to the evident tonal decline in her vocal. xxx
If she stopped smoking it would definitely improve her voice quality, because she still has great range but not so much the clarity evident in this performance. Saying that, it is very hard to give up smoking I know this because I sing (high may I add) and it does alter the tone of one's voice over an extended period of time, even more so than nodules.
Mariah does not smoke. She can't even be in a room where someone's smoking. The reason her voice has changed is because she has nodules and she can't get them removed because there is a risk that she can lose her voice altogether. Anyways, Mariah is still the greatest singer on this planet and always will be. She was, is,and always will be the greatest vocalist ever.♥♥♥=DDDD

After watching this and earlier watching 'I Stay In Love' from this years AMA's I am convinced her voice is still there. Yes I know this is from like the late 90s, but she has been smoking for a considerable number of years and I think that is what is putting the undue strain on her voice as opposed to the nodules which she has had since childhood.

no trust me ive seen a documentary which is supposed to show a typical day in mariahs life and she went to her doctor, mariah herself said "are my nodules ok, they are not inflamed or sore are they" the doctor replied "no they're fine, just make sure you stay hydrated."

One does still not know if Whitney actually went through surgery to have them removed or not. YOU CAN SING WITH NODULES, but they do affect your range and they may change your tone, but you can still sing! Mariah has had nodules since she was a kid, her opera singing mother said it herself!!!!!!

I´m sorry to say that but you´re wrong. It´s well known Mariah has nodules. She has developed them as a child and she learned to sing through them. And that´s why she is scared to remove them, because she fears she won´t be able to hit the high notes anymore.
Julie Andrews is a good example. Removing the nodules had ruined her voice!

Hunny, reread my last comment cause I'm not gonna waste more on this subject! But I will tell you that Andrews had her Nodules removed with a laser, which, leaves scarring and in return messes up the vocal muscle! A scalpel does not leave scarring and after a couple of months of recuperation the voice is back to normal! And FYI: there is no way in hell you can sing with nodules! Plus, they can become cancerous. Mariah would have been dead years ago if she had them since childhood!

Nodules don´t cause cancer in every case. They only do if they´re malignant. If you have benign nodules, you can live with them forever and they don´t cause cancer.

@Kijjapong thank you for clearing that up for everyone who's not up to speed with the singing voice, nodules swell and it makes it difficult to sing, so over time they only become worst especially for an international artist such as mariah carey, who doesn't really get to rest her voice that often because she is constantly touring and selling records, she always gives her fans the best of her and i appreciate her fot that.

@dm3889 Yes they are just like calluses you would get on your hands from performing repeated manual labour. If you catch nodules quickly enough you can rest your voice and they sometimes go away completely. However if you're not in a position to do that, just like with your hands, the skin continues to harden and thicken up. As this continues the vocal quality deteriorates and the nodules will no longer disappear of their own accord, this is when you need potentially dangerous surgery.

@assimilation I so torn about the whole situation, on one hand i want her to have them removed, but on the other hand im so scared that she will lose her singing voice, but thank about the richness of her voice if its successful, my favorite time vocally for her is music box to daydream.

@dm3889 Indeed, that's my favourite time for her too. It's the same with Whitney, both of their voices are quite poor today and, as they are now, I don't find much pleasure in listening to either of them perform. From a selfish point of view, I would like them both to have their nodules removed, but from their point of view, as long as the record/concert sales are still good, they've got no reason to risk it.

The same thing happened in the Charmbracelet Tour, it was said that the cocnert in Paris will be out on dvd, and it didn't.

If she stopped smoking it would definitely improve her voice quality, because she still has great range but not so much the clarity evident in this performance. Saying that, it is very hard to give up smoking I know this because I sing (high may I add) and it does alter the tone of one's voice over an extended period of time, even more so than nodules.

Mariah does not smoke. She can't even be in a room where someone's smoking. The reason her voice has changed is because she has nodules and she can't get them removed because there is a risk that she can lose her voice altogether. Anyways, Mariah is still the greatest singer on this planet and always will be. She was, is,and always will be the greatest vocalist ever.♥♥♥=DDDD

I have worked with Mariah Carey on towo occasions in London and I can tell you she smokes because I witnessed it for myself. She may say she does not but she certainly does. You can hear it.

After watching this and earlier watching 'I Stay In Love' from this years AMA's I am convinced her voice is still there. Yes I know this is from like the late 90s, but she has been smoking for a considerable number of years and I think that is what is putting the undue strain on her voice as opposed to the nodules which she has had since childhood.
