We're all talking about Marc Anthony and all. But honestly, I feel sorriest for Wolfgang. Playing his dad's "old" music day in and day out. Having to hang with a bunch of old guys/family.
This is sad! Classic Van Halen is my favorite ROCK band but Dave is singing like he's in a jazzy/vages act NOT the MIGHTY VAN HALEN! Oh well I'll at least I still have the option to listen to the original Van Halen on CD and my memories of how great they were.
i love Eddie. Still do. But what is it? tendonitis? possible that he blew his mind out on crack. He was super sharp with Sammy (not the sammy reunion), then almost as sharp with Cherone......and has been bad since then. It can't be age. Take Beck at Ronnie Scotts..unbelievable performance. So.,,what is it? He always played well drunk during the whole Roth period. so thats not it. Must be either the drug damage or some type of hand tendonitis. He plays like he's had a stroke.
how come wolfie's axe skills are killer? i know the kid is young, but fuck, when your guitar mentor is the world's best axeman, and he's your dad, youd think the kid would be killing that bass from since kindergarten on up...but looks like he was raised on guitar hero.
I fell in love with this band in 78 and i thought it was over when Dave was fired and the band brought in Sammy Hagar, man was i wrong, I didn't want to like Van Hagar, but voice for voice Sammy was the best thing that happened to VH. Diamond Dave sounds like crap,Gary Cherone was a joke, BRING BACK SAMMY!
Take it easy dude, I'm a huge fan. Part of art is being critical and giving your opinion. I just feel daves personality is a little outdated on stage. A little too hanging on to the past. I wouldn't mind eddie doing a solo project with some piano and chello.
I don't think Wolfgang's actually playing...look @ :42...that bass groove wouldn't be that tight strumming aimlessly like that. I'm thinking there was an offstage bassist or it was a prerecorded part
Man, i wish Dave would just modernize a little and lose the flamboyant 80's shtick. Horrible side burns and horrible gold leaf coat. Just throw a t shirt and jeans on.
@howzaou812 THAT would be lame as fuck. Part of what makes Dave DAVE is his outfits. Its like trying to tell Prince, "Hey, the yellow ice skater pants, frilly shirts and permed hair ain't working for you..how about tryin' on a tux and go bald?!" All that is part of an identity my friend.
These guys are entertainers, and you forget what being an entertainer is about.
Franky just wasn't meant to play a song this clean! Even Eddie has his limits! still great to hear from a bunch of old farts and one of their sons! :)
@smccumber1967 well... hip replacement, cancer, losing access to Valerie's ass, seeing your kid turn out a fatass and nothing near as badass as you were at his age, and realizing you're getting old... I would imagine all that shit piled in your lap would take a toll, lol.
@smccumber1967 This was the first half of the tour, he was still a wreck, you're right. But I saw them before and after the break and it was night and day. He's back. He did say it's different writing now that he's totally sober. Harder. But they'e back, will be on the Grammy Nomination Special Nov. 30th. New album and tour in February!
VanHalen needs Michael Anthony back on bass. He may not be the best in the world but his backing vocals are integral part of most of VanHalen's songs.

CLASSIC VH STILL KICKS ASS THOUGH!!!!! VH FOREVER!!!!
@ozzyhead73 Wow! Was just telling my son the other day, lots of guys can play bass for VH, but the vocals coming from the bass player aren't the same. Love M.A.!!!
After hearing this a couple of times i kind of like it. It isn't perfect but it does sound good and would like to see them live. After all its been 30 years since the release of this song and they're one original member short. Give them some credit.
I actually think this is a surprisingly good vocal performance from Dave, but Eddie is pretty off here. I heard he fell off the wagon a few times during the tour. I took Sammy's memoir with a grain of salt, but I think he's on to something when he says that Eddie always looks gaunt when he's using/drinking. He plays much better in all the tour videos where he has a bit more weight.
If you read Sammy's book you get a good sense of how Eddy sabatoged his own success. Definitely agree they could've been bigger than U2 if Ed really cared about his music. Listen to the piano playing on Bridge School live performance with just Ed an Sammy and you can see how the last 15 years have just been wasted talent.
Remember when Dave RANNNNNNNNN around, Eddie could keep a tune, Michael's hairy arm pits belted out those choir boy vocals and Alex smiled when he used both feet on his bass drums?
@Hunkola How is it sloppy? Sounds just like the soung almost, how many times do you think he's played this live over his career? Chances are he messes around with the song a little bit on purpose because I can imagine playing it the same way over and over gets old.
@Thrashfan21 ---- Sounds fucking sloppy because he's too busy whispering sweet nothings into his son's ear.......maybe the dude should focus on playing guitar instead of getting kissey-kissey with his grown adult son onstage in front of 20,000 fans......that's just weird.....makes me sad because I remember the old days when Eddie would fucking blaze it up onstage and wouldnt settle for half-assed playing
@Thrashfan21 Strange that you can't tell it sounds so sloppy. Hit a few flat and sharp notes, especially on 0:28~0:33 but on quite a few other spots all over the song too. One thig is to change a song up a little another is to hit notes out of key. Sounds like his the A and G strings were flat.
1982 VH show was the best I"ve seen. This is VH going through the motions and very poorly. Not worth seeing nowdays. The fire is gone. Won't come back.
This is so sad. Even the Gary Cherone line-up was better than this. At least Gary could pitch correctly on ever note and with Mike Anthony's backing vocals they sounded awesome. RIP Van Halen.

This is SAD to watch... I'd have to say this is almost worse than Kiss nowdays. Fat little chubby Wolfgang and his fat chubby friendly sweater. You've got to be kidding me. Van Halen is a joke now. Period. I don't care HOW good Eddie's sound is. This is hard to watch. Fuck you, Wolfgang..and a special big middle finger to Eddie for Ruining Van Halen.
i gues you never have been a musician for ages and have never felt the pressure they have and how they drink alkohol take drugs and so on to release that pressure.
@AGENTxx47 at first I thought he said I think I'm on acid lol but after I saw your comment I went back and yeah you're right dude! Ps. I loved you in Blood Money lol
Damn, DLR might be the only 70s-80s rock singer that actually sounds better now. So many of the vocalists just lost it but man, Diamond is spot on in this Vid.
The funny thing about the 2007 tour was that Dave was on in every video I've seen from the tour and the show that I saw (Alex was great too). Ed was the one forgetting stuff and making mistakes... Total reversal from what happened back in the day. I would go as far as to say Dave stole the show when I saw them. Ed was obviously very drunk. It was so bad I felt sorry for him. He needs to clean up his act and play like he's cabable of playing. I don't think he there yet even now.
wolfie wasn't frettin the right chords and the Guitar technician gave Eddie his guitar but it wasn't in tune...Eddie quickly recovered after 1 minute 10 seconds.
Yeah Eddie isn't in top form, he was drinking still and hell man, it's Vegas. But he gets a pass because he's a legend and for some people alcohol is a bad addiction that is hard to kick. Funny thing is that alcohol was also responsible for his greatness. He used to sit in his bedroom and get drunk and practice for hours.
Eddie, if Youre reading this, We all love You, Youre a FUCKING LEGEND. That being said, please stay sober on the next tour so that people paying 100 a ticket dont hear You fuck up this song on the next tour, because everybody knows this is not what You sound like sober. Love, Your fans.
@shanahanism He had his son here, u would think he would want to set a good example and be straight n sober for the show. Wolfgang was the reason he sobered up in the 90s. This is bad.
ARE YOU FUCKIN' KIDDIN ME???? I am sorry, props to Eddie and David Lee, but I am SOOOOOOO glad I saved my money on that tour!!!! Oh hell!!!!! I would have set fire to the venue had I been there!!! WORST performance I have EVER seen with the name Van Halen attached to it!!!
@1GODofWAR2 i think its 5150 guitar ? he had same guitar on 1986 Live Without A Net and it read 5150 behind the bridge.... not sure but i like frankenstrat too. it looks cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was at that concert. Eddie was ALL Fuck'd uP! He got boo'd when he did his solo! I thought that never would happen. Im his biggest fan, but not when he disrespects his Paying audience. ..seriously, people did walk out because they were embarrased for eddie. I hung in there. I paid too much money haha :)
Did he just do it bad b\c he was wasted? I was at the show in Grand Rapids, Michigan that was the last show of the tour (because he went to rehab and the original show date had to be changed)
I caught them in Columbus about 5 months after this and Eddie played pretty good. This is absolutely awful. He acts like he doesn't even remember the song. Bring back the Marshalls. Get rid of that nasty Fender amp.
yes, ed's messing up in a few spots. this was the leg of the tour where he was still drinking. add in the fact they're in vegas for this gig and of course he's plastered. still an excellent show I would pay to see again and again.
Hey Morons who say he ain't playing the song. HE IS! Listen to the original. It's dead on with a lil' bit of improv. This is good as it's gonna git at this age. You do better, you talentless rabble.
WOW! Thats the worst I have ever heard Eddie play. The video is the best quailty I've seen of this tour. Too bad Ed sucks. I know. I caught the show in San Jose CA.. It wasent vintage Eddy but he played alot better then this.Dave was great, the back up vocals were just too perfect I'm pretty sure there was some dubbing in there somehow.I've seen Van Halen 13 times between 78'-07' in my opinon he was at his most amazing on the 5150 tour, played a blazing version of Pipeline and he was perfect.
i dont know what type of senorita they are trying to attract with this latest rendition, but chips are in that she isnt as near as hot as the senorita they attracted back in 1982 when they all were able to perform this song leagues better.
Geez Is Eddie deaf now?His tone is terrible, andhis playing is sloppy as hell--(Half the chords are wrong!) Glad I didnt see this tour--JESUS,They sound terrible! Whats funny is that NOW,I actually feel sorry for Dave---how he can sing with Eddies terrible screeching guitar covering everything up is beyond me. Eddie give it up--Dave--Give ME a call--I can play Eddie under the table, and I dont drink.
yeah, they should have replaced little guitars with hear about it later, and to all the bashers of this song, eddie obviously cant remember how to play it so give him a break, he played every other song exactly the way we wanted him to play it so be happy that theyr playing the songs
Yeah, some missed notes, but still a feel good experience nonetheless... really cool song, definitely a VH favorite... glad they played it again after all these years.
big fan of vh/roth,every night is not gonna be perfect cause its live, not some lip sync rhyme to horses eat hay in the month of may,i make things out of clay, vh/roth still put on an awsome show, glad i got to see them. before and after the break up.
I am sure eddie is not used to playing this song on frankenstien. If Dave had more range they could play it as it was played in the day. This is still my favorite Van Halen song. Many people can copy Eddie's playing. Always remember he wrote the music. It is one thing to be a poser. I is another to be the first. Eddie will always be the man that wrote the book on guitar playing. Few others come close.
Chris5150 you like Eddies 3/4 Les Paul. Sorry Dave will never hit that range again... I know Sammy can. Sammy is the ultimate front man for any band. I have seen both bands many times. Sammy always puts on a better show.
Please, Sammy has much more energy. Roth is ready to turn this act into a vegas show. The rest of the band has always been rock and roll. Dave has always been glam. At best he was only an average singer. Sammy proved himself with montrose, a awesome solo albums. He was the best singer Van Halen ever had. Not to mention what he did with the Wabo Ritas. Van Hagar was the best.
anyone notice how small that guitar is? Eds not a big guy and the frankenstrat looks tiny here. Maybe it morphed for the song!

And watch Eddies lips at 40 seconds, it looks like he says "I feel like I'm on acid"

AGENTxx47 1 year ago

I'm sorry but these guys need to throw in the towel and call it quits.
ericpieper69 1 year ago
Yeah Eddie isn't in top form, he was drinking still and hell man, it's Vegas. But he gets a pass because he's a legend and for some people alcohol is a bad addiction that is hard to kick. Funny thing is that alcohol was also responsible for his greatness. He used to sit in his bedroom and get drunk and practice for hours.

what did eddie say to wolfgang at 0;45?
dmohr7 1 year ago
@dmohr7 He asked him why he wasn't in bed, it was past 10pm.
THeMaskedBlogCritic 1 year ago
Maybe one of my favorite tunes ever, by anybody.
Just a song in which everything meshes perfectly. Great riff, great lyrics that fit the tone of the song.
Nice hearing DLR actually singing instead of talk-singing as he did for much of the nineites.
Good stuff.
Soxpert 1 year ago
Eddie, if Youre reading this, We all love You, Youre a FUCKING LEGEND. That being said, please stay sober on the next tour so that people paying 100 a ticket dont hear You fuck up this song on the next tour, because everybody knows this is not what You sound like sober. Love, Your fans.
shanahanism 1 year ago 2
@shanahanism He had his son here, u would think he would want to set a good example and be straight n sober for the show. Wolfgang was the reason he sobered up in the 90s. This is bad.

Wolfgang sucks

I was at that concert. Eddie was ALL Fuck'd uP! He got boo'd when he did his solo! I thought that never would happen. Im his biggest fan, but not when he disrespects his Paying audience. ..seriously, people did walk out because they were embarrased for eddie. I hung in there. I paid too much money haha :)

Did he just do it bad b\c he was wasted? I was at the show in Grand Rapids, Michigan that was the last show of the tour (because he went to rehab and the original show date had to be changed)

How could he "do it bad"? He's been doing it forever, of course he was wasted. Very sad.

I caught them in Columbus about 5 months after this and Eddie played pretty good. This is absolutely awful. He acts like he doesn't even remember the song. Bring back the Marshalls. Get rid of that nasty Fender amp.

I just realized after watching an 84 performance of this song that Dave shaves his chest now. I'll be damn.

yes, ed's messing up in a few spots. this was the leg of the tour where he was still drinking. add in the fact they're in vegas for this gig and of course he's plastered. still an excellent show I would pay to see again and again.
20carrocks 2 years ago
Hey Morons who say he ain't playing the song. HE IS! Listen to the original. It's dead on with a lil' bit of improv. This is good as it's gonna git at this age. You do better, you talentless rabble.
bowiefan441970 2 years ago

Eddie give it up--Dave--Give ME a call--I can play Eddie under the table, and I dont drink.
mrbrianmccarthy 2 years ago
I wish they would have done hear about it later
AssassinSteven 2 years ago
yeah, they should have replaced little guitars with hear about it later, and to all the bashers of this song, eddie obviously cant remember how to play it so give him a break, he played every other song exactly the way we wanted him to play it so be happy that theyr playing the songs

vanhalenkid 3 years ago
I am sure eddie is not used to playing this song on frankenstien. If Dave had more range they could play it as it was played in the day. This is still my favorite Van Halen song. Many people can copy Eddie's playing. Always remember he wrote the music. It is one thing to be a poser. I is another to be the first. Eddie will always be the man that wrote the book on guitar playing. Few others come close.
xxchuckydxx 3 years ago
Chris5150 you like Eddies 3/4 Les Paul. Sorry Dave will never hit that range again... I know Sammy can. Sammy is the ultimate front man for any band. I have seen both bands many times. Sammy always puts on a better show.
xxchuckydxx 3 years ago
Please, Sammy has much more energy. Roth is ready to turn this act into a vegas show. The rest of the band has always been rock and roll. Dave has always been glam. At best he was only an average singer. Sammy proved himself with montrose, a awesome solo albums. He was the best singer Van Halen ever had. Not to mention what he did with the Wabo Ritas. Van Hagar was the best.
