I love the beginning ...the males are going after the females ..is so funny! "Hey baby, what's going on? You like how I look?" LOL Then, the other ones right next to him doing the same thing.
Aw, that is crazy beautiful! Those toms are like "looka me, looka me!" and the hens - "meh. Where'd that worm go??" Lovely waltz, too. Thanks for the giggle, and thanks to phaedress for sending me by!
Thanks! You should hear them, I call them the boola-boola birds, tho their sound is often a boola-googoola, if you will. They are my morning signal to get up, and the night's last delight (as they fly up to the trees) as I put the chickens to bed.
I've awakened to the turkey quest for sun and food - it's quite pastoral, when you're in the country! They are becoming termed as pests in our area (but I don't think so!) as they are multiplying so quickly - I saw three foraging by the freeway last week ... and I mean *right by* the speeding cars!
I've been told the wild turkeys taste "gamey", not at all like our domestic table treats. I feel odd eating chicken, cooking it, now that I keep chickens as pets.
Nope, just for their eggs and the fun they bring to being outdoors. I can't bring myself to kill things like animals, even reptiles (a nasty snake in my garden last week). I just give them room to escape, and hope for the best.
Magnificent! Reminds me of my college days, hanging around the UC and trying to impress the girls. My running buddy was a fellow trumpet player named Tom(!). We both were sporting beards, thought we were all that , strutting around, showing our tailfeathers, and did have a reputation in some circles as a couple of marching band turkeys! Ah, nostalgia! Seriously, good to see you posting again, thanks for the video.
Thank you. Didn't we all do "the dance", with our finery and glancing eye flirtations, indeed! Long time ago for me, but oh the fun and foolishness of it (that we took so seriously). I love the animals, they are so upfront about the need to impress a potential mate.
they're wonderful, thank you!

And to think people thought it was crazy that the turkey almost became our national bird.

Nice photography and great idea to add the waltz. Life is madness with an occassional waltz.

Your chickens are pets? I didn't realise; thought you were raising them for food.

Hey, phae, me too! crazymml is right though, they need extra special cooking because they're not as succulent as caged turkeys. Hard to catch too.

From time to time they looked like peacocks...
Zea107 3 years ago
Yes, I agree. And what I've seen of peacocks, they do a similar "parade".
