@MFS357 No, a driver with zero backspin would get no Magnus-effect and plummit to the ground very quick. A driver for max distance should be hit about 1200-1500rpm spin. However you don't need to hit DOWN on the ball to get backspin, all normal golf shots have backspin (except putts). Hitting down on the ball give MORE backspin however...

I believe that I will trust Bobby Clampett over you. I'd suggest heading over to Golfwrx.com and check out some of their trackman numbers of tour pros. It is all about tempo and torque...efficient use of your body. Most people I think swing to hard, and sway to much, and twist to much. supple quickness at the bottom, instead of throwing your wrist from the top. and being wild. also if you slice, your making to strong of a move to get under the ball, which you dont want to do. hit the back of the ball like it were nail you wanted to hit into a wall with your drive. let the loft of the club to the work and keep your lower body solid and planted

Cashmoney13337-He hit a cut (curve) that landed at about 255 without much roll. If he would have hit a draw it would have been around 280 or possibly more with the roll. See where he aimed? It was about 30 yards left of the pin. If he would have had the same swing speed with a straight shot or slight draw, you would add that 30 yards onto the 255, equaling 280 or so. 280 is a nice hit.
