The "smart" dont have much crumple-zone, it's just to small, but the passanger "cage" of the smart is extremly robust. Nevertheless, the person inside will experience much more force in a crash -> heavier injuries

guckmal: nah, the W126 clip is of a full-frontal crash test. The W140 and newer are all offset crash tests, whereby a much smaller area on the front of the car takes the full force of the impact.

I think it would be safe to say the W140 would fare better in an offset smash than the W126, although I've not seen an offset W126 test so I can't say for sure.

I disagree. The more you car weights, the slower decceleration will be. For instance, the smart was acctually deccelerated, then acceleated backwards by the momentum the s class carried with it. momentum is a function of speed and weight. Now you tell me who suffered more acceleration, the people in the S class or those in the smart

well, I totally agree with that. However, I wasn't talking about braking I was talking about the weight of a car in terms of passive safe or the moment of collision and how the body is protective. For instance, most BMWs have a body made very light alloys, yet the are one of the best cars in passive safety.
