The strings should be numbered  from [1] high "E" down as THIS is the top string, b=2, g=3, d-4, a=5 and bottom E = 6!!

No chords necessary just adjust the strings that you see me plucking until yours sounds the same as mine and then go onto the next string. The D chord is then used to play the opening notes to Everybody Hurts by REM.

SORRY MATE but 1st string is the high E (the thinest string ) 2nd string is B 3rd is G 4th is D 5th is A and 6th string is the low E string ( the thickest string )

is good help but you counted the strings backwards. the first string is always the high E.(bottom string) and the 6th string is the low pich E ( top string) cheers!

Hi dontbreakthatpromise and adamwould1. I think your problem is that your strings are fastened to tight on the guitar (the headstock)

.. I believe it would solve the problem to go to a guitar store somewhere professional and make the guys in there tell you how to fasten it right (I did that, it's good to see with your own eyes how it's done properly.)

Yes all guitars are tuned to the same 6 notes.

There are times when a diiferent tuning is used but it isn't the norm. Strings do break but it normally because you have missed the proper frequency and you are tightening the string much too far.
