@Togaparty - no, not a chance. I'm an audiophile and found the foobar dynamic range meter registers around 3, which is terrible. The waveform was pegged almost the entire time, and that points to terrible production/mastering. I do like the tunes, but playing that CD on a quality rig is painful. This was meant for cheap cd players and iPods. Sorry, but this isn't an opinion, but fact. Hopefully they'll get their act together for the next release.
@TheMuzicnut I think the quality was intentionally suppose to sound that way, it gives them a unique style, and if it wasn't I don't think they should change it. It does get annoying when you can't really understand what they're singing but it still sounds pretty good. :)
Compare the start of this with the start of Friday I'm In Love by The Cure.
A great band despite the fact that all of their songs sound like other songs that existed before them. Maybe that's too harsh.. but when i hear song by them it always reminds me of another song.
@klayer9 Well, you deserve a premium for this., this week a Brazilian MTV's program asked "From which band Yuck has used the guitar riff in their first single 'Georgia'?" The Prize was a Yuck vinyl. Go ask your share, you helped the producer of the show.
Just bought their album last week and loving it. Check out my bands new single at this channel. I find we some similarities to what Yuck's style and I think you'll enjoy it!
This is terrible... when would you actually listen to this music, its no use for driving, its no use for a party ..although im sure all the "trendy" bars will be playing it in no time. Just really fucking boring
@DugEatinBeetroot I don't know about you, but for me music isn't just a background for driving or a party. I listen to this song 'cos it's catchy as shit.
@FourteenOfHearts I gave two examples just to get the point across that i dont find it has any real place, so much else I would rather listen to - of course this is just my opinion, Im sure there must be people who think this music is fantastic - its just no for me. - they were on that jools holland a wee while ago, didnt think they were up to much even as a live band
WHO CARES IF THEY HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED BY MY BLOODY VALENTINE AND DINOSAUR JR, NEW MUSIC HAS TO COME OUT, WE CAN'T KEEP LIVING WITH OUR BELOVED BANDS OF THE THE 70S 80S AND 90S WE NEED TO MOVE ON SOMETIME AND GET OUR OWN GENERATION OF MUSIC, NOW SUCK IT UP AND JUST ACCEPT IT FOR ONCE.
@rockafella563 Haha, thank you. It's true though, being inspired doesn't imply you are discrediting a band. I bet most of here listen to the 90s, 80s, 70s, and the 60s. It's not a bad thing, but what will we tell our kids? There will be no sense of anything being our own.
@jaffabeans I refuse to share that part of my generation of music with my kids (when I get them). I've tried my hardest to listen to dubstep and electronic music, but I can't hear anything musically pleasing in those songs. Yuck is a band I'd be proud of showing my kids, saying "In my day there were some great bands that emerged from the ashes of the old, continuing their legacy in the greatest ways: by creating music with inspiration from them."
@bryguy2049 haha why not ? The underground music scene is all about electronic music and has been for the past few years, just check out Rinse FM/ BBC1 Xtra. Check out Burial, and Maya jane coles. Also there are some great new guitar based artists like Caribou/metronomy/goyte. Obviously this is all opinion, but joy division and the velvet underground where almost completely disregarded back in thier zeitgast and only with hindsight and years they became realised.
@jaffabeans Well okay, I guess I was kind of broad with my comment. Electric music can be done right. When I was younger I was obsessed with Daft Punk. Though, you point out that underground music in your comment, and I'm usually okay with that. It's the mainstream stuff that I really don't care about. It's all boring, or not pleasing to the ears at all. It's just there to be there and make money, and that's what kind of disappoints me.
@jaffabeans the underground scene is not what you think it is the underground music scene well the proper one doesn't even use computers to record they make 20 copies of an album and then you have to copy it from one of those check out milk music they've been uploaded by fans so you can actually listen to them
yeah, I know what you mean, this song makes me remember all the times I took the ferry to Bainbridge Island from Seattle, and there were seagulls eating the wind and the sky was so crisp and salty, made me want to drink hot cocoa and earl grey tea, burn my tongue, though and then Winslow came up and the books were great, I munched up their words and laughed with my Grandma and Grandpa while we ate filet mignon...
i just saw these guys open for tame impala last night @webster hall in NYC. i didnt know them just came to see T.I. but now i wish i would have seen more of them. i like the sound.
@DrAbeGelly 2/4 of them yes, the lead singer of cajun being the singer/guitarist of this band and the bassist of cajun became the lead guitarist of this band. it definitely has some of their flavor in their acoustic songs huh? :)
@elborimex Not really true. Granted, Yuck's influences seem a bit more evident than say, Everything Everything for example... but as Damon Albarn said: "The whole thing about pop music is that you're ripping off as many people as you possibly can. The trick is to listen to the right people."
And even though you could claim Yuck isn't the most original of music, it's still pretty damn good, despite the ties with Dinosaur Jr. or The Cure or whatever.
This so infectious. There are so many sounds reminiscent of so many great bands.... Teenage Fanclub, Ride, My Bloody Valentine and as it was quite rightly pointed out a healthy dose of The Cure.
