Only later games like Halo and Half-Life could evoke such eerieness and action. 343 Guilty Spark in Halo 1 is sort of the modern equilivant of this level. Both of them make you wonder... what the fuck is going on?
u know wha this song rlly fits? the sound of cyberdemon walkin...MAN....when i first played that sound SCARED THE SHIT OF ME! i was all time like O.O........where is......where he is......? *open door* OMFG CYBER!!!!!!!"
@frioo66 nice to see some1 that know that feelin too......know that when u enter this stage..no matter how many times u play it u will NEVAR know from where cyber will come..
This music alone made E2M2 terifying. The way the synths mimic demonic cries good enough to give you a sense that something is there, even though you know all monsters are killed.
In the days before YouTube and Facebook and all of that I would for hours on end play right through the levels in both Doom and Doom II....those are the best memories of both Doom games, right into the mid-90s. I miss the 90s already as a kid.
In the days before youtube i would play through like 3/4 of the game just so i could hear a song on a specific level i would get there and not even play the level lol.
@NashKillmaster Yeah, I just listened to Call of Ktulu, and I hear no resemblence = In about as little similarity as there is to E1M1 sounding like Master of Puppets. I just think that metallica fans like taking credit for things that their band never really did. Metallica is good and all, but the composer of Doom made this bitchin' music all on his own.
@areckelh I had to listen to it real closely, and I think the actual similarities are just the drum beat and the climbing nature of the notes. Besides, every artist and composer has some kind of influence, that's one of the reasons why they do so well in the first place.
@areckelh Not saying I don't agree with you, but listen to E3M1's music and Pantera's Mouth For War, and tell me that isn't *at least* a reference! Same with E3M2 and Judas Priest's Leather Rebel.
@elstormo I acknowledge now that many of these songs contain at least a hint of reference to many good rock songs of old. Some a lot stronger than others, but regardless, it's all good music.
This song fits the level perfectly! You start near a wall of boxes with only one exit. The music starts so well you get the shit scared out of u and start thinking stuff like "OMFG wat if there ish a cybademan behind tat wall??!?!?!?!OMFG!!!!!"
@Rambosee Dude, as I've read your comment, I've felt urgent need to play that level, so I've run Dosbox and played it. You're right, what an atmosphere was that!
*u run so fast as u can and try to survive.a legion of demons and devils follows u to drink ur boiling blood in ur veins to get the feeling of suffer .but they dont know that ur more dangerous than a mio. man rebellion. u turn and screams:*
Everyone will go down ! one by one!!!!
*ur gatling shoots thousands of bullets to ur enemies and u hear their suffer of their fatal wounds. u like this sound ....its like u turned into a beserker with blood thirst.u stop shooting. nothing is alive. u go away*
i think they should re-release this soundtrack with actual guitars, etc. the only problem is that people would screw it up by over-distorting their guitars.
I like how in the SNES version they used this track instead of the one that plays at the end of levels. They had to chop out a few maps (Storage got chopped from shores of hell episode) and it threw the music off a little.
The most atmospheric, creepy music in the game IMO. Especially with those boxes all over the place... there's a million places for something to LUNGE AT YOUR THROAT
I can't believe this song actually used to scare you guys back when you were a kid. When I was a kid, I loved this song. I thought it was a creepy song but it was more catchy than being creepy.
that sound you hear that sounds like evil speaking is actually a reversed sound wav of 'to win the game you must kill me, John Romero' ... pretty awesome. There is also a reversed wav sound in heretic... it's that whispering sound. 'destroy the higher magi' i think it said. Awesome song.
Dude...at the REALLY creepy part of the song (like starting at 1:12), near the middle of it, at around 3AM, my mom BURSTS through the door at high speed, and I yell CARMACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scariest thing ever in my life.
