My 8 year old daughter came in while I was watching the video, she asked me, Daddy, "why don't you stop them?" I told her, "I'm trying Baby Girl." She caught many fish with me and her mother this summer at the rigs, one was a 40 lb. redfish that we let go unharmed because we were in federal waters. She is still downstairs crying, she knows where the fish come from. So sad....
@mobdeep4life you have to get a permit from the government to set the structure down as an artificial reef. so that is not always a viable option, but these companies try to do so whenever possible as it is cheaper. usually in these types of operations only the top 80 feet of the structure or so are removed, and the rest of the structure is left in place.
Most are severed below the mudline and hauled away for scrap. The platforms are required to be removed in a certain time frame after the lease runs dry or out. MMS also gives approval for Rigs to reefs where these jackets are towed to a reef site and dumped for habitat.
MMS doesnt always give out RtR permits therefore if you want to blame someone for taking out habitat, blame your federal govt. Thank You and good night.
BTW, these are my videos so i know what i am talking about. :)
destroying some serious habitat. gj. you do know that the platforms in the gulf are the reason there are red snapper. sucks to tear it all up for no reason.
Awesome video, can you change the setting to allow playback on iPhone?
