The earlier version that starts out with just piano is really much better. She goes into a bit of indian type singing at the end of the verses. It's really cool and perfectly fits the song. It's on YouTube but the quality is bad. Worth a listen though.
I got my drivers license in 1972. All I did that summer was drive drive drive & listen to the radio (CKLW out of Detriot/ Windsor). I can name almost any song & artist from that year and this is the first time I'e heard the original radio version in 30+ years THANKS MOJOFILTER02 for bringing back a moment of the happiest summer of my life to this old Ohio boy
@midohtree I was just shy of my 12th birthday and that summer my family were all over Ontario on trips. My dad would play the Barrie top 40 station (CKBB?) and that summer for music was pure gold for me, great Canadian music of course. Including this song, Beautiful by Lightfoot, Some Sing Some Dance by Pagliaro, Concrete Sea/Terry Jacks. I hear you brother!
@fuddpie I had the single it was pretty big locally Sarnia/Windsor on the BIG 8 CLKW! I'm almost 55 and love Buffy - she's an amazing artist and songwriter , and Canadian to boot!
i just listen to this on ckww 580 am . i was looking for this a couple of months ago . but couldent remember the name of it. a very nice song have only heard it may 10 time in my life i am 51yo

This was my most favorite song with I was young. I save my money from babysitting to buy this 45 back in the day. I'm glad to have come across it after so many years of not hearing this tune. Thanks to who posted this video.
I appreciate your videos showing the most recent pictures of the artists at the end. Hard to tell if you've done that here, she's ageless! This has always been a favourite of Buffy's for me, thanks for this great version.
Love this song!! I remember listening to it on 1050 CHUM in Toronto. Next too Bobby Russell 'Saturday Morning Confusion', it was the first 45 I ever bought!
Look up the 1050 CHUM site. This song actually spent 9 weeks on the chart, peaking at #14 on Aug 19, 1972. It was played not only on the top 40 stations but also the easy listening ones. I recently found the original song after looking for some time, usually a live version from later in her career is the one you find. I had no idea about her writing songs for those people though.
Thanks for looking that up for me on CHUM. It's encouraging that the record charted somewhere and did well in isolated markets. But RPM is the barometer of a record's national popularity. According to the archives, nationally, this record was invisible! That it went Top 20 in Toronto didn't seem to help. It spent 2 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 and tanked at #98.
It's not so much that Buffy wrote songs for other artists, she wrote them for herself and they were discovered by others. Donovan covered "Universal Soldier," several artists covered "Codine" (a misspelling of codeine) in the '60s, and Elvis covered "Until It's Time For You To Go." Buffy also wrote "Up Where We Belong," which Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes took to #1 for 3 weeks (US) in 1982.

Good Day,
I like this song by Buffy..
I get to listen to it on CKWR about once, every other day.
It's on their play list.
I don't really recall hearing it in my childhood, but knew instantly it was a song of hers..(when I 1st listened to it on the radio).
Very talented lady!

You say that as if you thought there was something potentially embarrassing about liking it. I don't understand your mindset, but whatever.

A few tears, listening to this one, so much about years ago, late 60s/early 70s, growing up on the Canadian prairies.
Proud handsome kids on the nearby reserve, and wasn't this a song of theirs?
