It's amazing how obsessed golfers become with the swings of big hitters. What did Mike Austin win with this swing?? One shot in freak conditions has created a cult following ... pre-occupied with just battering a ball. That thinking won't improve your golf ..... unless you intend to join the ReMax Tour. Great ball strikers head the rankings right now and some of them aren't long at alll..... but they can all putt!
@SearchBucket One shot in freak conditions? Austin was hitting drives over 350 yards in the 1950s and, more importantly, he hit them straight. His swing was as close to technical perfection as there has ever been, and emulating the fundamentals of such a swing will only ever improve one's golf game.
MIKE AUSTIN WAS THE GREAT TEACHER IN THE WORLD OF GOLF AND HE HIT THE GOLF 515 YARD AT AGE 64. DAN SHAUGER LEARNED FROM THE BEST TEACHER MIKE AUSTIN, I HAD SEVEARL LESSON FROM DAN AND NOW I HIT MY GOLF BALL STRAIGHT DOWN THE LINE NOW AND WITHOUT BACK PAIN AND HE HELP WITH MY PUTTING AND SHORT GAME,DAN HAS 2 BOOK AND 27 DVD AND HE WORKING ON 3RD BOOK NOW aperfectswing and I PLAY A BETTER AROUND OF GOLF NOW AND WITHOUT KNEE PAIN AND CHECKOUT DAN BOOT CAMP NOW I DID HE HELP ME OUT ALOT GREATTEACHER

Not to take anything away from Shauger et all... I strongly believe these swing ideas are underrated still, since there's no downsides to them. They produces great direction, length, and consistency. What it's all about really.
Having read "How to kill the ball", I found that the "Austin" swing as presented by Shauger et all reminds me very much of Joe Dante's swing theories in his book "Four magic moves to winning golf" (published 1962). I e, the same wrist action (flat/bowed), the actual square clubhead through the entire swing, and strong emphasis on the lateral hip movement during the downswing. How come Joe isn't recognized more for this stuff, as ee seems to be the original founder of these ideas?
