When I first saw this in 1956 it had scale steam engined and like the rest of Southport I thought it was magic. I still go there but it is so run down and not really a holiday town any more.
Every summer as a child we visited Southport Pleasureland without fail (My favourite rides were the Caterpillar and the cable cars!) We always used to go on the minature railway which took us to Happy Land, have a play there and then get the train back before visiting the minature model village! Happy days and happy memories!!!
Great little railway and wish we could build the same quality here in Australia. We have smaller 3 1/2 inch and 7 1/4 inch layouts, but nothing in 10 1/2 inch ride on railways. Ray Sydney Australia
Ah, The Southport Lakeside. Went there a few times as a young child... A nice short ride beside the lake, even if the locos are diesel outline. Thanks for this!
That's a shame I bet if they had kept one or two they may have got some more visitors to the railway.

Has to railway got any steam locomotives at all?
penninefilms 9 months ago
@penninefilms No - they sold them to collectors at least 30 years ago because diesel locos were easier & cheaper to run.

I was at Southport in 1999 and remembering seeing the miniature railway on the postcards and the line under the pier.
