  • how, an new song for a compilation that acctually matters!

  • this another great track from van halen with DLR as leadsinger,i like it very much.

  • I think it was only right of the band to go back and redo all of their old, lost classic songs from the 70's. But, when I hear a song like this, I almost wish they didn't.

  • Great Don Caballero/math rock ending. Wonder if Damon Che has heard this.

  • I love this song.

  • This blows away everything on their new shit and their new shit kicks ass

  • I never got why little attention is given to these 2 songs, This song has all the sound of Van Halen through the years wrapped one. From Van Halen-1984, to 5150-Balance. It captures Van Halen in all their original magnificence. The foundation of Al's pounding sound of a heavy alien spaceship, Mike's pounding groove and angelic gusto set of backing vocals holds the center piece, EVH's dimension bending manipulation of the strings & DVR's screaming show tune jungle boy swagger. This IS VAN HALEN

  • I love the beep in stereo right at 56 seconds into this song!

  • this is really a great song, love roths lyrics, and just seems like the fun is back in the band, they really sound killer,

  • You guys are funny about Mike. He is not on the backing vocal track on this song or a lot of other van halen songs previously recorded. Sorry to break up the party.

  • @rothonly4me How do you know this ? Cite reference please

  • esse cd é o melhor the best que tem do VH..sou fanzasso...

  • Well, I thought we couldn't get this stuff no more... but turns out we can get some more in a few weeks...

And yeah, I miss Mike, but still going jump at new VH, and besides, I like ChiFoo too... it's not like Mike is out of my musical life or anything...

  • Shame this type of soul won't be on the new record. Mikey will definately be missed.

  • 0:38 "Tears For Fears: Everybody Wants To Rule The World" ...."Michael Jackson: The Way You Make Me Feel" ...no it´s "Van Halen" .-)

  • This is the MOJO thats needed on the NEW VH CD with Roth ;)

  • horrible.....

  • DLR is the Real VAN HALEN

  • @RobbieGnr1

Get over it. What you people? 14 years old?? The "REAL"??? That makes Sammy fake?? So, was ACDC with Brian Johnson FAKE??? So juvenile and idiotic..

  • Eddie rocks

  • David Lee Roth is King,,period.. Say Something..

  • @jojojesse69 he is no royal brotha

  • @jojojesse69 he has not even been knighted, and they probably made more money than Elton John and were more well known

  • @jojojesse69 something

  • @jojojesse69 Something!!!!!!!

  • manny riffs from many songs are remasterd from old VH songs

  • David Lee Roth Is Van Halen.

  • people listen to yourselves. its all subjective. Ask your self would you like that song or album if Roth/Hagar was replaced by each other (depending on which side you fall). I bet the answer would be yes, so its ok to like it for what it is. Roth/Hagar argument is such a yawn. Enough already...By the way i dont love or hate marmite either.

  • google is threatening to cancle my accout on youtube (i used google to spell ck) if i don't give a phone number, lol. why waste my time with this BS?

now, my comment on this video is: pretty much the same responce as above. i'm not a singer, but i know octaves, notes and frequencies inside the human hearing range of 20Hrz to 20,000 Hrz.. i love VH when (the whole band) anyway that they can put out some good music.

  • One more thing. I'm sick of this "Sam has more range than Dave" crap. NO IN FACT HE DOES NOT!! As hard as it may be for some of you to believe Roth has a 4 octave range and Sam has about 1/3 octave less. His voice may not be as strong as Sam's but he doesn't have less range he actually has more. However, people get confused because Sam sings in a higher range and equates that to having more.

  • good call Edward....it definitely sounds like Secrets.

  • @mkokal67 Its the same groove as secrets and its in D. The guitar tone is killer.

  • does anyone know the first song at the beggining of surf ninjas sopposedly by van hallen ?

  • try a youtube search on "van halen" "isolated guitar".

several vh songs have been published with the guitar parts only.

  • "The barn burnt down now I can see the moon"

  • oh yeah? Thanks for the reply btw. Can't beat those high pitched vocals by anthony. It's not the same without him.I like wolfgang but he is young and just not mikey.Yes I love dlr he brought that special flavor of charisma and flamboyance to the table sammy didn't.The original man is always tough to beat. How do you know mikey might be back???

  • Van Halen with DLR-THE FUCKING BEST!!!!! WHERE'S MIKEY!!!!

  • I agree roth should not have left in the first place. That was the biggest mistake he ever made.Wolfgang is good, but not the same without mike.Nothing takes place of the original usually.Sometimes someone can, but most of the time no.Bottom line roth made a big mistake and cost both parties I felt somewhat.Hopefully they can keep it together and the new album will be pretty good.Looking forward to hearing some new vh songs. :0)

  • @voiceovers74 New Album being released between Nov. 2011-ans Feb. 2012 with Tour following-Mikey may be back!!!!!

  • (cont.) Roth NEVER went to #1 with ANY of HIS solo work & EVERYONE claimed his star would continue to rise while VH tanked. VH got the last laugh on that one. Roth ran outta gas when the 80's became the 90's. VH had a longer life than him By '91 his career was in the toilet, by '93 he was getting arrested for buyin' weed. '95 he was rock bottom in Vegas bein' Wayne Newton. A FAR CRY from 1978-85 & NOBODY criticized or dogged him like they did VH for simply sayin' "One monkey don't stop no show"

  • @blackrockdude1

Lol you are a fucking jack ass just like the rest of your Hagar hugging buddies.

    Too bad so sad.

  • The fact that nobody criticized Roth for QUITTING VH is asinine. He left everybody hangin'. Mostly EVERYBODY "GAVE UP" on the greatest power trio on the planet. They secure Hagar & EVERYBODY cried foul like bitches. ROTH walked away from the greatest gig in the world for nothing (that's what his solo career amounted to) Nobody was pissed at him for QUITTING,but EVERYBODY was pissed at VH for going on. I remember 4 #1 albums coming from the Hagar run (didn't get that with Roth). (cont.)

  • @blackrockdude1

Blackrock dude...just so you get it... I am telling you to suck my dick.

  • Where's all the hatred comin' from @GolasgilEldemar? Only a fags themselves would make replies like that . I asked a question mired in fact. Because no one DID slam Roth for jumping ship in '85. If they did, can you count ANYONE of 'em cause I can't find 'em. You like Roth, I do to, he's the funniest, most hilarious, obnoxious man in Rock, but HIS BEST DAYS AS A FRONTMAN ARE BEHIND HIM. Singer: Good (in studio) but onstage. HE SUCKS ( THANK GOD FOR Michael Anthony - when we had 'em) (cont.)

  • (cont.) ALL VAN HALEN IS ALL GOOD....EXCEPT FOR NOW NOW. Michael Anthony is gone because Ed was upset he (Mike) didn't sit on his ass waiting on him & his brother (still even after cut his pay (after 1988, Mike was NOT an equal partner from 25% down to 10%, because of THE BROS.) to get rockin' again. So they could live high on the hog. But Mike had to work like a dog to stay afloat, he's got a wife, 2 daughters, rent & bills to pay (btw, 1999 -04) Waitin' on them, HE'D BE HOMELESS. (cont.)

  • (cont.) THEN, to add injury to insult, the VH Bros. draw up a contract writing M.A. completely off & out of any future VH residuals due for work he HELPED create. Didn't even want him on THAT tour ('04), but Sam stuck up for Mike (something Roth DIDN'T do when they let him back in, which shows you what kind of friend Roth is). "If Mike ain't in, I'M NOT" is what Roth should have told Ed & Al like Sam did. But he'd desperately wanted back in to fuel his EGO (or rebuild it) .... (cont.)

  • (cont.) Roth's career had been DEAD SINCE 1990, 22 of a solo career & only the 1st 3 yrs. were any good (until Steve Vai, the CLOSEST Roth would EVER come to another Ed, split in 1989), He needs VH more than they need his tired ass....(again I like Roth but....still) Did anybody piss on him for leaving in 1985? Shouldn't have quit in the 1st place.. I'm MORE upset 'bout Mike bein' gone & Roth for not sticking up for him, because Mike was about us "THE FANS"

    .

  • The mix sez it all...Guitar..Guitar..guitar and Bombastic drums...there's some vocals in there somewhere Grow up Eddy...you got the knack but you haven't had anything new to say in 20 years...why advertise it at the expense of the guy singing!!!???

  • ill be happy if at least one song on new album goin to be as good as this one

  • Sammy Hagar sucks a meeeeean dick!

  • like the good old days

  • So did they play this one and me wise magic,,,,,in the last tour?

  • it sounds a little to much like Hagar for me but its still good

  • @vanhaledude110 This actually was originally a Hagar song, except it was called "Back Door Shuffle" and it was supposed to be on the Balance album.

  • @JamesJoseph1000 yeah this sounds a lot like the Balance sound.........which is very good by the way....people talk so much shit about that album ..........i think is great..

Oh by the way did you catch eddie using some talk box effect 2:38?

  • @contact1araya Yeah, I've noticed that. I thought that was some sweet shit. And I love the Balance album too. I think if they would have released this song as "Back Door Shuffle" with Sammy Hagar's words on the Balance album, it would have been better than this, to be quite honest with you.

  • Ed writes all the music including vocal melody. Who cares who's singing.

  • so was this song a new song written for the greatest hits collection.Ive never heard it before but i remember when they got together briefly in the 90's

  • the verse sounds a bit like "secrets" anyone agree?

  • @EdwardVanHalen YEP. Same rhythm structure but a little different

  • @regardingwave forgot to add the damn SOLO kicks ASS

  • @EdwardVanHalen I did not pay attention enough to notice, but I did notice it sounded a bit like awesome, anyone agree?

  • @EdwardVanHalen That's because it's the same chords and phrasing, just on a slightly different axis.

  • We can get this stuff now :) NEW ALBUM coming soon :)

  • @wcmi92 i don't think so. if they do? it will probably suck. i hope 100 times i'm wrong. i don't care, just put something out there. the fans will decide.

  • Dave can't hit those high notes anymore...wonder how the new album's gonna sound.

  • WINGS, NOT RINGS!!!

  • when i start solving complex problems, i dont memorize any more.

  • did anyone else hear the keyboard in this song? my ears are so attune to bass, drums and guitar. a singer doesn't make music.

  • yeah, they prepaired for those six days too. you pay a recording studio to record your band's music. ed still has a 16 track studio and dave has a record label. they are not with WB anymore (no contracts). they can record and produce anytime they want, but they don't.........

  • Van Halen used to record their albums in 6 days and now they are Michael Anthonyless and spending over a year to record 10 songs give me a break man Wolfgang is still in diapers too - what a crying shame.

  • this song kicks ass

  • @OceanderTethyseus Both songs with Roth KICK FUCKING ASS AND ASSES

  • i was sitting here thinking about the first time i heard VH. i was 10? in 77. who is this weird, quirky and off timing guitar player with all that distortion and reverb? ed controled the feed back. it was unique and original and it sounded damn good. and al, the greatist RR drummer of all time.

  • fucking cool and beautiful song.

  • i can't stand anything Van Hagar did.

and i love everything Van Halen did with DLR.

  • @OceanderTethyseus you arent a very open-minded person are you? "Van Hagar" had a lot of great hits..

  • @codebreaker212p

name any song by Van Hagar and i will vomit on it.

  • @OceanderTethyseus "dreams" "judgment day" "aftershock" "good enough" I could go on and on about how many classics Van Hagar had.. Man you are just bitter that Dave left and Sammy filled the gap well.. I can tell...

  • @codebreaker212p

omg "dreams" makes my skin crawl. so fucking phony and lame.

i'm listening to "judgement day" for the first time - it's like a sleeping pill that turns you gay. god that is lame. good grief. lordy, even the guitar work sucks. thank god, it is finally over.

  • @codebreaker212p

okay, listening to "aftershock" for the first time.

the guitar work sounds like Metallica - the fakest gayes posers in history.

he always sings like somebody is twisting his nuts off.

is this song about anything? god, what a damn bore. unbearable.

okay, here's the solo #1. what a joke.

here is solo #2... barely passable and nothing compared to the old VH.

    here's solo #3... fairly badass.

the rhythm sounds just like gay Metallica.

  • @codebreaker212p

okay, listeing to "good enough" for the first time. dude, i can't bear it. his voice is sick. it's like somebody scrubbing my eardrums with a brillo pad. he sounds like he's giving birth to a porcupine.

here's solo #1... Eddie's just wanking it. it's going nowhere and it is pointless without the context of a decent song.

now Sammy is doing a DLR imersonation. what a fucking phoney ass.

here's the solo at the end of the song... shitty, stupid, and pointless.

  • @OceanderTethyseus At least Sammy gave it a shot singin Dave songs, didn't hear Dave doin anything else.

  • @JoeNJ2 No he didn't. That band did their best to ignore their first six albums right up till just before Hagar left in 96. He refused to sing 99% of the back catalog for damn near 10 years. The few attempts he did make he ended up letting the crowd sing it or MA. Sam couldn't sing a majority of the Roth material anyway. They are two different vocal ranges. Roth is more of a baritone and Sam is more of a tenor. I don't want to hear either singing the others music.

  • @codebreaker212p

please don't take my comments personally. i just don't like Van Hagar. if you can dig it, that's fine with me. i don't think less of you for it.

to me, Van Hagar is like a clown driving a Ferrari.

  • "I don't need so much to remember, that's how it is when you tell the truth" HAAAHAAAA LOVE IT!! VH ROCKS BABY!!

  • all praise to @pfcwar5150. LOL!! tru dat brother.

  • all, 99.9 % of all these comments are at someone. what?, you can't think for your self? what is it? "vanhalen515084". speaks his mind.

  • one thing that dave brought back to this song is great lyrics, got me a date with a super model, classic dave, its good van halen, but i think they could do better, if they write more heavier music, with daves lyrics, that will be awesome, nice solo, dave does sound good on this,

  • @WKHalford Spam's book is filled with discrepancies, twists of the truth, and sometimes outright lies, and I only hope that the VH camp continues to show class and not get into it publically with him. He was good in VH. They made good music. But now...he puts out garbage. Atleast his 80s solo stuff was decent. Even the new Chickenfoot single is crap. The way Mike an Satch were talkin it up, I expected a lot more.

  • @Wilkster5150 I do agree that Chickenfoot isn't all that great. They do have potential though, but their first album just didn't quite hit the mark. It sounds like half of VH. The only song I like from that album is Oh, Yea.

I personally think DLR's solo stuff is better overall than Sammy's solo stuff, with the exception maybe of Heavy Metal and I Can't Drive 55.

  • @WKHalford I agree with all of that. HM and 55 are two of Sammy's best solo efforts. I liked his Standing Hampton and VOA albums. Just wish he'd quit slaggin Ed an Al every chance he gets and concentrate on putting out listenable music like he used to. But not with VH. I want Dave to stick around for good.

  • Love the solo on this ,

  • @WKHalford BTW, I have EVERY VH album an love em all. But Sam is just a delusional douchebag now who shits all over the history of VH whenever he gets the chance. Just read his book. To hear him tell it, VOA was just as big as 1984. MMMAAHHAHHAAAHHAAA! That's a good one Sam. He is nothing more than a Jimmy Buffett wannabe at this point. Sad.

  • hey les gars ! faites nous un album de cette trempe.....

  • Rocks.

  • Wow this sucks give me Fair Warning any day

  • @littleboeep Eh...what? Yes, I agree that Fair Warning kicks ass, but I also think this is a pretty good song, even for Van Halen standards.

  • I wish VH would just suck it up and truly reunite. Mike belongs on bass. Wolfie can play like 39 instruments, so he'd be a perfect addition on keys/rhythm guitar.

A new CD with Dave and Mike would put another rock band back on the map.

So far, it's just been a sad attempt.

  • @raypowersmusic You are right... whatever wolfie does or doesnt do in Van Halen cannot replace Mike Anthonys abilities wolfie has the stage presence of a doormat....It will never be the original greatness and power without Mike Anthony...no WAY....there is something definately missing...very apparent

  • This tune and Me Wise Magic are as true to classic VH as you could possibly get, yet fresh. If the new VH album has tunes like this...whoa. Yet I can't believe 16 years has already passed since even these songs were recorded.

  • DLR the only voice for VH

  • kick ass guitar solo... eddie the best

  • FUCKIN RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWKKKKKKKKKKKK

  • You Know what I think is great.. The fact that I thought to look up this song and find that there is comments as current as a few days ago.... Kinda takes the edge off of getting older. Thanks All

  • Totally awesome song, and that was a freakin' killer talk box solo.

  • cool to hear evh on the talkbox never heard that before

  • You know, Dave's new voice makes me even more insane while listening to VH. I don't know, but he sounds like he's doing the best he can, reaching his limit. Looks like he's putting more SOUL into his singing. I like that.

  • your right dave,..you can't get this no more. now we have J Bieber...(wiping tear from eye)....SAVE US VAN HALEN!!!!! MAKE A ALBUM,...PLEASE!!

  • @pfcwar5150 he will dude, hang in there....

  • @pfcwar5150 I think this puts it into perspective...lets go ahead 30 years...do you think ANYONE is gonna be listening to the crap Bieber puts out, or even remember it. OK... 30 years from now, people, who know great music, are still going to be listening to VAN HALEN I will guarantee it!!!!

  • Michael Jackson's album kept this one from being #1. But this one is music; Jackson was strictly pop, flash, glitter and glam. Van Halen is built to last.

  • @joeypinello7qj54a Funny...Eddie actually plays the solo on Beat It. So a piece of Van Halen was in the #1 spot.

  • man if dave wasn't such a fuck face, we would have had a entire cd like this in 97-98..... butthole

  • @sw1tched I think both Ed and Dave have to share the blame for that debacle, lol.

  • @sw1tched lol ed only brought him in to do two songs to promote the greatest hits album he told dave that before they went into the studio get your facts straight there bud

  • @motleycrue24 haha, your a moron, if dave wouldn't of been a fuck face backstage at MTV awards, they would have made another cd

  • @sw1tched dave told ed it would been a bad idea to show up too the mtv awards cause it would be pushing the critics to the idea he was back in the band..alex kept pushing dave too do something crazy in front of the press but there is no point of talking to someone thats in denial and acts like a foolish twelve your old

  • @motleycrue24 Exactly dude come on Eddie is a jerk only his bro can tolerate him and after HE Eddie loses their promotion for touring cuz of his problems lol And wolfgang having to be on bass its obvious. Also I have always heard jerk stories of eddie. One time he asked for this guys digital camera at a airport just to delete his pic off of it. It was just one person not a mob of ppl. I am not sure i could listen to him play if i met him in that manner...

  • a really good song, when dave starts is with, got me a date with a super model, i just knew thats dave, what great lyrics, and a good solid heavy tune with a good chorus, right on,

  • Relax............ We get New Dave soon,,SWEET !!

  • there is a message behind the two songs the message is

Can't get this kind of magic no more.

  • THIS SONG IS SICK

  • this song sounds like it would fit on Diver Down perfectly

  • HAHA! eddie on a talkbox . . . i love it, though i never thought that would ever happen . . . sick ass song, i hope thier new album will be like this

  • @Chillybeef123 he didn't use it though ... it wouldn't fit in his mouth right so he had the producer do it while he raped the guitar

  • The only reason I bought the greatest hits this and Me wise Magic

  • just started getting into van halen. i like the intros but im not sure about the rest of the song...

  • This could fit right onto 'Diver Down'. Same vibe. Whereas the middle sounds very 'Fair Warning'.

  • Comment removed

  • the new music with David will be awesome. hopefully the album is at least an hour i think we all deserve a long fuckin excellent Van Halen album.

  • @nickthecomedian agreed! how awesome would it be to have an hour long vh album, it will ground breaking! FUCK IT LETS SAY 2 HOURS THE MORE, THE MERRIER!

  • and everyone's a critic. ...why can't you all just enjoy the music?

  • they have a treasure trobe of music. will they record some new music? no. ya know, don't BS us with talk about some new album. just say you are done. don't fuck your fans around like this. i'm getting tired of this shit.

  • @theratfarmer, me too.

  • eddie would have kicked ass no matter who the singer was. van halen would have been huge even if taylor swift was his lead vocal. they were awesome with both singers. and his real fans would rather you cut out the " he's better, no he's better cry baby childish bullshit" Thank You

    Fan of Eddie VanHalen

  • @sheetmetaldept10 - not necessarily there sheetmetal. Can you say "Gary Cherone"?

  • @sheetmetaldept10 right on ... eddie wrote all the damn music .... dude anne wilson from heart would of rocked with VH haha

  • @sheetmetaldept10 I agree. Van Halen has the all time back up vocals too. Mike and Ed can sing their tails off.

  • @sheetmetaldept10 Tell that to Gary Cherone. The album with him sold less than 600,000 copies.

  • @retoronto TURD ALERT.......TURD ALERT!!!!

  • I Think it.

  • Got me a date with a super model I know I know you say Fucket.

  • Diamond Dave will be giving us this stuff some more!!!!! 6 months and counting!!!! VH is back!!!! See VHND.com

  • They are going to be back with a new album in 2011. If you want the scoop go to vhnd.com

  • Was that Eds Dewalt drill going off at the end or a shop vacum cleaner?

  • @noshadez .. Guess I heard a ghost.. a 2nd listen and it was not there anymore.. wierd.

  • this and "Mean Wise Magic" is a window of what could be if they record again with Roth -one can only hope!

  • @mastart85, They did record again. They recorded this song, and one other song.

  • WHAT A KILLER SONG !!! BETWEEN THIS AND ME WISE MAGIC...... FRICKIN INCREDIBLE !!!

  • It was nice that Diamond Dave could record new studio tracks with his old mates for this greatest hits set. A full album would remain only a dream.

  • i love the line "I don't need so much to remember, thats how it is when you tell the truth." so true

  • i love this song

  • Honestly the only thing that worries me is this Does Dave have the ability to pull it off without pulling a thomas Kiefer and blowing a vocal cord, I dont think Dave would know if he did, I love him like no other but Ive seen some live performances that werent unplugged but should have been. LOL later

  • the verse reminds me of the "secrets" from Diver Down, anyone agree? cool song and great solo as usual

  • @EdwardVanHalen Kinda, good ear there dude

  • @EdwardVanHalen lol itd be cool if u were ed himself

  • @EdwardVanHalen absolutely! :) love that bass groove

  • @EdwardVanHalen agreed

  • You rock dude!
