yeah white stripes crossed my mind as well. Their director for filography/photography definately pulls elements from at least one white stripes video. the switching of backgrounds whilst keeping the same foreground image, and matching the changes with the drum beats. And yes comparing a 2 piece band with the same instruments, of coarse they will sound similar.. its drums vocals and one guitar... theres only so much you can do with that.
