I saw Pink Floyd in 67 after the Democratic Convention in Chgo. Hitched to San Francisco and met a chick at Golden Gate Park that took me to LA to see Pink Floyd and they did this song at the gig!

Quite a wonderful slice of psychedelia - pure and fearless. Which, by the way, was why the Rolling Stones hadn't a clue with "Their Satanic Majesty's Request." The ironic wink-and-a-nod attitude doesn't work with this sort of material. You either mean it or you don't.

Q: Some of your songs seem rather obscure - like Chapter 24 on Piper.

SB: Chapter 24...that was from I Ching, there was someone around who was very into that, most of the words came straight off that. Lucifer Sam was another one - it didn't mean much to me at the time, but then three or four months later it came to mean a lot.

I think that he was a sensitive and had intuition way beyond the norm. Don't you think Scarecrow is an exact description of his later life (even comparing his older self to his younger self- " The black and green scarecrow is sadder than me,but life's not unkind, he doesn't mind " He did seem contented in his later years. I call that rather prophetic.
