  • Damn, nice tweeter. Horn tweeters are the best for the deep high frequency...

And that speaker, if it is from the 70's DAMN...

  • Impressive woofers for their age. Bet they would sound even better with a db matched textile dome tweeter instead of the PA style piezo.

    Nice set of speakers.

  • nice heavy duty boxes they should last a long time

  • You will never get "outstanding sound" with a poor piezo tweeter

  • the woofer is PHILIPS..... try the same speaker with a PHILIPS amp, you get better sound.... I'm sure !

  • The tweeters are Piezoelectric. If original vintage, likely motorola.

  • Its a supertweeter

  • What model amp is that?

  • @VicRail99 Technics SA-946.

  • those do sound good, I use bullet tweeters in my car audio and they can sizzle your ears with clarity and keep up with the loudest bass!

  • really nice tweeter i bet they have more power than the woofers themselvs they muct be out of PA speakers or very good ones

  • tweeter is a piezo-type, woofer from Philips.

  • i got those tweeters to :D

  • Philips made a DIY kit (ADK15) with that AD7065W (fs 40-45Hz), in combination wit a dome tweeter AD160T or AD141T with crossover filter (ADF...) @1500Hz or 3000Hz. Advised volume of the enclosure was 9 tot 15 liter. Same magnet was used on bigger units, up to 12".

This little speaker is even more impressive in an active system with motional feedback, where it can go down to 25/30Hz (little mod in filter).

  • very nice!

  • Do they have a real crossover in them? Or is it just a few capacitors? certainly sound good to me.

  • Nice, very nice.

  • what's the song of the name at 2:56 ?

Looks like really nice speakers also, and for 5 bucks, nice buy :)

  • @SimonTofft Sorry, I don't know.

  • @SimonTofft the song is Cold Hard Bitch by Jet

  • @SimonTofft The song is "Are you gonna be my girl?" by Jet.

  • @SimonTofft

Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl

  • @SimonTofft Jett - Are you gonna be my girl

  • @SimonTofft it's are you gonna be my girl from jet.

  • @SimonTofft I got you. Jet "Are you gonna be my girl"

  • @SimonTofft Jet - Do you wanna be my girl.

  • @SimonTofft i think its "lust for life" by iggy pop

  • @SimonTofft Are you gonna be my girl - Jet

  • starting wow at 2:36

  • not bad for 5 bucks.

  • thet is a piezo i heave one

  • the tweeters are definetely, piezo made by cts, they dont need a xover but the trimmer suggests that someone has fitted a xover which will improve the sound by cutting the xover frequency at the correct frequencies, the reason it sounds so good is because of the wadding, decent woofer with a big magnet, the xover and finally the tweeter, the combination of all these quality components can make a great overall sound.

  • gayy look at my 12' lol i got for $10

  • @BzM0Dz Yes, I'm gay. So what?

  • @vwestlife what the fuk i was talking about the speakers

  • @vwestlife um i was talking about the seapker what the fuk

  • @vwestlife um i was talking about the seapker

  • @vwestlife what the fuk haha i was talking about the speakers

  • @vwestlife i wasd talking about the speaker dude

    wtf haha

  • @vwestlife Oh my .. owned!

  • @vwestlife - Do you swallow?

  • @deadbirdsings Only if you return the favor!

  • @BzM0Dz Your sub is not more worth than 10$; i got the same lotta time ago and it souns like crap. I dont know how the amp sounds, i only got a passive with the same driver

  • @BzM0Dz pwned

  • Very cool! Someone put a lot of time and effort into those things. And even if they aren't made with true quality pieces, if it sounds good, it was a good buy. A nice project to do.

  • I think these tweeters are Goldwood GT-1005 piezo tweeters

  • particle board is heavy

  • nice speakers :D

  • So I'm making these own portable speakers of a couple of old computer speakers I had laying around.

I have cut off the electricity transformer and planning to connect it to a battery/battery pack instead.

On the transformer in my speaker it says (among other things): "OUTPUT-AC 10.7V/0.8A".

Now to my question. Is the output energy actually 10.7V? What should I use for this? If I use 12V battery pack, does it only use the amount it needs or does it somehow get to much electricity and overheat?

  • @bulipap The power input probably just goes into a rectifier and voltage regulator, so using 12V DC instead of 10.7V AC would be fine. You'd just have to experiment with the polarity to find which way passes the DC through the rectifier.

  • Good for you.

  • The subs look shit but i bet them tweeters are decent

  • @mc22b These are not subs.

  • @mc22b those tweeters are the shittiest piezo crap you can get

  • the back is fucked

  • fuking bullshat

  • holy !!, only music on the radio!

  • woofer is a phili'ps. i think the smallest out of the HiFi line .

  • That's not a fair review, Michael Jackson always sounds great!

  • i am making one too but lot smaller

  • I love technics amplifers, I have a su-600

  • You got a heck of a bargain there. That is a Philips AD 7065 driver, 8 ohm version. And yes, it was made in 1970. Upgrade the tweeter and probably the crossover, and you've got a nice pair of speakers. BTW, rolling up the speaker wire like that creates an induction coil. :-)_

  • just a shame its such shit music playing out of them

  • is that a homemade cd player to?

  • do you still have the speakers?

  • yep looks like a philips mid-bass and a piezo, good bargain dude!

  • piezzo electric tweeter good but not to much

  • @xSlavic i have DJ speakers with them made by soundlab

  • The woofer is from Philips. My guess is that the tweeter is from Realistic or Monacor. Could be an original Visaton to. It's for sure a piezo tweeter.

  • @gekkehenk1980 or soundlab?? because i have DJ speakers made by soundlab with 4 of them on one of the boxes (i have 2 soundlab speakers) so 8 tweeters altogether

  • The reason they sound so good,,, is the Phillips 6.5" midbass drivers. They're sought after by Hi-Fi freaks. Toss that piezo,,, get a soft dome for cheap,,, and you'll be amazed at the detail.P.S.,,,,, use POLY FILM capacitors, not electrolytic.

  • Its a Acoustic Designs 2-way system with a Piezo tweeter and the woofer is from the late 1970's.

  • Its a Acoustic Designs 2-way system with a Piezo tweeter from the late 1970's.

  • Tweeters looks nice!

  • que porra de musica e essa , o som ta muito velho

    80w essa porra

  • those look like those cheap motorolla tweeters they used to sell on canal street in nyc for around $4 each. I have some similar woofers that are 6 inches with a double stacked giant magnet that came out of this acebass proauido b250 sub box. i kept mine too because i might use them for something in the future. they have rubber surrounds and they don't make em like that anymore. i bought some 4ft tall akai sw180's for 10 bucks last week. that was a great deal too

  • is that a radio/tape deck you're using? what's it called?

  • @HuskyWolfy Technics SA-946. No tape; it's just a receiver/amplifier.

  • Looks nice, but, the tweeters - yes its piezo, and piezo cant be callek ''speaker'', its only whistling thing. Change it with other speaker. All sounds better than piezo :o) (Sorry for my english, im from Czech :D)

  • those are home made speaker boxes fuckin guy the speaker is what you removed from the box

  • @punkofdeath I think the context of "homemade speakers" was abundantly clear. What were you expecting, one of those stupid fake videos where people say you can stretch tin foil across a paper plate and make a speaker out of it?

  • @vwestlife no.... look up homemade sub-woofer.. but i do get your point because i didnt think you could do it till i seen it. Most of them suck but theres these what look like Russian kids and they used a tire some plastic and a magnet off magnets4less and that sub hits hard. also i want to say I wasn't trying to be an ass i just curse like a sailor. : ) peace

  • @vwestlife also the reason I was searching is because I get the basic idea of how to make a speaker. I just don't know how to calculate the ohms and watts on how the voice coil is wrapped. also I'm sure the diameter size of the coil varies depending on the tone and frequency you wish to produce. So I'm researching on the details of the project so i don't fuck something up like my amp, my stereo or myself.

  • @vwestlife how about someone who actually made hisself a speaker with magnets and a coil?

  • @vwestlife those actually work some not all of them

  • @punkofdeath Actually the speaker is the combinations of the Drivers(what you call speakers), box, and any crossover inside the box itself. The woofer and tweeter are actually referred to as "Drivers". So don't be such a wanker towards vwestlife.

@vwestlife You certainly got a good deal for $5 for those. I do believe home made speaker can give you more bang per dollar than commercial items. I have built all my speakers and also a couple of homemade amps as well.

  • Good box ;)

  • @arleankarraker Why would you want or need to do such a thing?

  • great buy anyway ;)

  • nice lookin amp

  • they are very similar to that were made by me but i was very careful to be sure they are ligtweigt

  • THAT IS NOT HOME MADE ITS A HOMEMADE SPEAKER BOX

  • @francisco44230 damn they aint all dat nah! He act like he caught a super steal! Not tryin to be mean

  • good music choice XD

  • im guessing mid 60's phillips speakers?

  • someone took those speakers and added them to the boxes. that's all. 5 bucks, fuck it, id rock them in the garage.

  • would have sounded better with an EQ but still, nice.

  • cool, they look pro, i just did similar thing, i took my ipod, since headphones broke, and cut a 3.5 mm pc jack and connected the 2 to the speaker, took a cardboard box, frame and cut the hole, and made bass whole, surprisingly it lasts 2 days with only 1 iphone charge and verry loud and has base, i colored the housing blue and it looks good, for under 5$,also nice work

  • its a 50 watt Goldwood GT-1005 Wide Dispersion Piezo Tweeter, ive ownd a couple and there not that high quality, there frq.response is only about 3,500-27,000 Hz ////////

  • i have 4 philips woofer

i cant remember what the speaker name was

it has 2 philips woofer in it and 1 big mid and a good tweeter

they go very loud and clear

funny enough i found them at the garbage

1 of the woofer is rotten and 1 is full of rust

    the other 2 are oke

  • I think the tweeter is either from maplin or radio shack because i have the exact same tweeter and it was from maplin electronics. Mine is 75 watts rms and 150 watts max.

  • not piezo its a diaphragm

  • its a piezo , actually you can get that component for around 2 bucks

  • omg.. u can hear the quality of the sound even over youtube! pretty good speakers man.

  • Woofer is Philips AD7066W, circa 1978-1980. One of the best small woofers available. fa resonance 32 hz.

Tweeter is cheap knockoff of Motorola but has respectable HF extension.

  • hahahaha

  • amazing how every area I goto has 96.3 as a station.

  • we dont have that station in tucson,az we have 96.1 instead haha

  • How does this comment have anything to do with the sound of the speakers???

  • @Soulfood68 cause when the music is ugly I dont listen to this shit :D

  • LOL. My Question still remain. :D

  • a pile of shit piezo tweeter, woofer looks ok.

  • There is no crossover. The tweeters have a built in crossover inside them, and I think the woofers are running full range. My woofers are too, but on one set of speakers they sound a bit shrill in the midrange (like PA speakers). I would like to get some inductors to stop so much treble coming through the woofers.

  • I've got those tweeters in two sets of hi fi speakers! I find they sound crisper without any cloth covering them.

  • the tweeters are piezo tweeters that are only 8 dollars i think. they are sold at a australian shop called jaycar. these are nice sounding speakers and it looks like a lot of work went into them!

  • They're on the RS website. That's where I got mine

  • Nice that you are enjoying these home made speakers probably many years after they were made. Tweeters are piezo. I'd guess they are being used more as super-tweeters, crossed at 7-8khz+ and the woofers run full range, so all the voices come from the "woofer" unit and the tweeters only add "sparkle". It's quite an effective design concept for a lot of types of music but relies greatly on the quality of the woofer.

  • 1971-1978 philips woofers, (i think)

  • What's the song thats starts at 2.30 ?

  • The song at 2:30 is Alicia Keys - "If I Ain't Got You."

  • Thx... much appreciated for the quick respond :)

  • piezzo tweeters and PHILIPS woofer of 70's. I have some of these woofers...

  • whoever put those speakers together knew what they were doing. Solid cabinets, heavy gauge speaker wire and the right sized speakers for the job. Wasnt put together buy a novice thats for sure.

  • If you like soundquality. You should replace the Piëzo Tweeters with Ribbon drivers! They have excellent power handling and no phase shifts and a nice frequentyrange!

You should look the ribbon drivers up!

  • woofer is philips!

  • Good job; You've got a great space to tinker around with speakers. Keep the videos coming.

  • Those tweeters are made by anyone from Motorolla to Deliquist, I had a pair of Motorollas, but the horns broke so I tossed them.

  • It's a piezo tweeter and I think the box itself looks like a LS3/5A clone.

  • I've had 100's of speakers of every make and level just in the last 4 years, If they sound good to you that's all that's important. I do however recommend you don't listen to any other speakers side by side. It could be a very rude awakening. Nice speakers for 5 bucks...Kaching~!

  • Good speakers come in all sizes and price ranges. Ultimately it comes down to a matter of personal preference. You could spend $30,000 on technically flawless speakers (and even more on a tube amp to match) and then be disappointed by how they sound. I like good audio but I don't have that kind of money to burn, so I just judge things by my ears, not by the price tag or spec sheet. I do most of my listening through headphones, anyway.

  • @vwestlife Completely agree, I have a pair of old H H Scott speakers In my living room and I was going to change them for a Bose surround sound kit but when I put them side my side the Scotts were just so much clearer and tighter.

  • Those are the worst, cheapest Piezo tweeters you can find. Anything over 10 bucks is tooooo much. I never heard heard a lower quality sound than from tweeters like those... Next time, try some 28 .... 36 mm silk soft dome tweeters. And look out for a new amplifier....that one is OLD. And quite bad, actually. Try to find an old tube amp. Cheap but very nice sound.

  • Did you miss the part where I mention these speakers only cost me five dollars? And not all piezo tweeters sound bad. These tweeters were used in Dahlquist speakers that originally cost $500 each back in the early 1970s. And there is no such thing as an "old tube amp" with "cheap but very nice sound." Cheap tube amps have lots of distortion. It may be a "sweet" kind of distortion that some people prefer over a "sterile" solid-state sound, but it is distortion nonetheless.

  • Those homemade speakers are cool! They remind me of my Realistic MC-1000s.

  • I hate when people make speakers out of particle board. They should be made out of thick REAL wood. Not that particle board junk. Same goes for MDF board.

  • @ddl312:

MDF is fine for studio and permanent installation speakers as it sounds better than ply unless it's like 18mm 15 ply baltic birch ply. Particle board/chipboard yes is total crap and should be avoided like the plague.

  • @ddl312

the speaker cannot tell the differance.

  • @ddl312 calm down these are 6 inch speakers they barely even give excursion... real wood helps alot more on subs not on 40 year old 6 inch speakers

  • Comment removed

  • thos are philips woofers as Supersmasher97 pointed out.

  • Very nice speakers! Interesting shape to the woofer, too. I, in 2006, bought a pair of homemade speakers from a garage sale. They're very large with 12" woofers and they had 5" tweeters. But since the original owner played them so loud, one the the tweeters were blown. (each speaker had 2 tweeters) Even the woofers he replaced because the originals he had blown. He said he got the speakers from a console TV (like the really big ones RetroChad has). I later put in midranges.

  • Those woofers are Philips,l recognise the part number.l have a pair of 70s Philips 2-way speakers, they don't look much but they sure do sound good. They contain the same sort of woofer.

  • I've never seen octagon shaped woofers before.

  • phillips mdade alot of them

  • Those look like philips woofers

  • Maynardcat im sry but you are not informed enough. If u ever saw a pair of DQ-10 you would know its not the same. Very similar but not the same. But thats not the point, even Jon Dahlquist said the piezo only works from 12kHz as a super tweeter (cuz thats what piezos are). As for being made in America... belive what you want.

  • Hi Amphjle Yes I have seen the DQ-10, but whatever difference there is, it certainly is not apparent in just glancing at them., and as far as Dahlquist having custom made Motorola Piezo tweeters that are different, you are right I am not informed on that, and never heard that they were. Their freq range was listed as 4000 to 27.000 cycles per sec, and that is all I can go by. I have 4 of these tweeters, but never used them in any of my speaker systems.

  • Yes, the way u spelled my name says something about how well u observe things. I wont argue with you, mb Motorola made them at some time or not (and we all know what a big name in audio world is Motorola dont we?) . I bet however there is no Motorola mark , a serial number or something written on the model from this video. U can see these shitty piezos everywhere from PA systems to auto speakers. While ur searching for Motorola piezos, i can direct you to chinese manufacturers of these piezos.

  • AMPHILE That was a silly and petty remark to make, so I hit a wrong key, big deal. Considering the wording and spelling in your message I wouldn't have the nerve to say somehting about someone else's spelling. Calm down and quit taking things so serious.

  • sheesh take easy dude....i never owned piezos before. OK so super tweeters can also be cone type but these ones look like horns.....which they are. thank you for your info Amphile.

  • i dont know about the woofers, but those tweeters are cheap chinese piezo. i cant imagine what kind of xover frequency was chosen for those piezo. Anyways if u like it, its all good but im wondering whats ur reference in sound.

  • My reference is the $5.00 I paid for this pair of speakers. :-)

Piezo tweeters can sound a bit harsh, but are also very efficient, and these ones are well matched to the woofers, so there is no "hole in the midrange" effect.

  • The piezeo elec tweeters you have are not cheap Chinese. They were made in America by the Motorola co. Used properly they can sound good. After all Dahlquist and Saul Marantz of the Marantz of America, who designed the phase array system for the Dahlquist DQ-10 used them So I would imagine they have some good quality to them if top designers used them in the DQ 10 which was a very expensive speaker, and still commands a big price even today

  • dont say piezos are cheap o_O

    i saw one for 1000bucks

    they are crappy tho

  • These are two really nice speakers! They sound very good, even on the camera!!! The woofer was made by Philips, all Philips speakers are having a number like that on the back.

  • Really nice find! They sound great for being made with amature craftsmanship. I like how you test your equipment with a Technics receiver. It looks very similar to mine but with some added features.

  • That was a great find for 5.00. The tweeter is a Piezoelectric tweeter, which actually requires no cross over due to their unusual design. He probably has just an attenuator for volume level of the highs. The odd shapped woofer is a Norelco. and they are a high quality woofer.

  • I never knew Norelco made speakers; I thought they just made shavers!

  • According to Wikipedia, Norelco was the original name for all Philips products in the USA, because Philco sued them for having a name too similar. In 1974 Philips bought out Magnavox and then started using the Magnavox brand name for their U.S. electronics, retaining the Norelco name for other products like shavers. Philips bought out Philco in 1981 and then finally was able to begin selling Philips-branded electronics in the USA.

  • Wow! Even through the camera's mic I can tell those have got it going on. The tweeters look like something you would see in a professional sound reinforcement setup. Great find! :) JC

  • Wow! What a find!

Someone either knew what they were doing, or got lucky when building these.

  • cool :-) i can definately tell that they really do have an accurate and clear sound!

  • That is the same tweeter that is in my Dahlquist DQ-10 speakers! It is a piezo-electric horn (and is used as a super-tweeter on those speakers)

I was about to say the woofer looks just like the midrange on my Dahlquists, but larger.

  • Correction: It is the same speaker as my midrange (even the magnets looks identical) just larger.

  • The woofers on these are 6-inch with paper cones and nice beefy rubber surrounds. The cabinets are about 12-5/8" (32 cm) high, 8-3/4" (22 cm) wide, and 6-7/8" (17 cm) deep, not including the grilles.

  • My midranges are about 4" and have the same rubber surround.

  • He is right they are the same speaker made by phillips norelco. The Dahlquist used Advent woofers and the Phillips Norelco midrange Weslife if you really want to know what a bargain you have check out ebay no 360175432061

  • My guess is they were a manufactured pair that were rebuilt using newer (or older) parts, the cabinets look rather 80s or 90s, but the screw terminals are most likely 60s or 70s the recess the screws are in are clearly where clip connector used to live.
