I had this version on a 45rpm and played it on my close'n'play so many times I wore it out. It was a demo copy from a local radio station. My family went crazy I played it so much!
@posthumanhero i think they are mediocre now...they were very good in the 70s also...most of the bands and other singers and artists are at their best their first five years, according to me.. for example:Rolling Stones,Elton John,David Bowie, the Who...between 5-10 years they are beginning to fail, and after ten years, they have no inspiration left... that´s my opinion... the only band i think was at their maximum after 5 years was Beatles..
@jeroenverboom agree!!!i also have the first records of status quo..it is a fine psychedelic touch in their tunes from that time..in the beginning i didn´t like that, but now i ADORE it!!!
Anyone notice Status Quo's other single "Technicolor Dreams" on the cover beside "Spicks and Specks"! The Bee Gees didn't write their "Technicolor Dreams" until 35 years later! haha
I have been looking for this version for sooooooo long, thank you so much. This was used as music for a fashion show video I used to have that Im trying to find again... I love this version. Thank you!
Status Quo's manager wanted them to create a sound much like the Bee Gees back in the sixties, but like most succesful bands, they found their own musical direction
Interesting to note that the song featured as the b-side of a Quo track called Technicolor Dreams. The Bee Gees would record a song of the same title on their 2001 swansong album - which wouldn't sound bad in a medley with Spicks & Specks.
I've only heard the BeeGees' live version; I like this a little better. Either way, it's a good song, but that title might have been a problem in the US. It would have been an even bigger problem in Puerto Rico.
Its good for people to express an opinion just because they like one version over another doesnt mean they no nothing,Its what they think and thats all that matters.
I generaly find that people who say other people know nothing are usualy the ones who know nothing, and good for you for expressing your opinion,For the record i prefer the bee gees version although the quo make a good job of it.
ADORE IT...nuff said

The vocals are as flat as a witches tit next to the Bee Gees original, there is no feeling in this cover version.

I love this version, I think it blows away the Bee Gees' original (and I'm a big fan of '60s Bee Gees music).

Well, I'll be... I didn't think I'd ever hear this song again since they stopped playing it on the radio when I was a teen. Thanks for posting it!
