This holy man is deeply spiritual, serenely peaceful and slightly amusing - all at the same time. Now that's a wonderful combination! I can tell he would make a great spiritual mentor.
@hexcane Right I see what you're saying. Its just good to simply be aware of the fact that negative actions arise from unhappiness, poor upbringing, etc. This does not diminish the horrible things people do, but, at least to me, recognizing that negative actions arise from unhappiness brings me at least some peace of mind. And your mindset is perfectly fine, you wish no harm on anyone else...that is compassion right there! Its just some people take if further, not necessary unless u truly wish
@hexcane Great! It brings me joy to hear you say that. And I completely understand what you're saying. However, consider this: look at your personal suffering.Others suffer the same ways, others FAR worse. As you acknowledge your own pain+some of the words and behaviors that arise as a result, you may recognize that some actions of others, which may seem hurtful or cruel or "evil," arise from a similar well of unhappiness. People are like that due to their unhappiness--not because they want to be.
@hexcane I do not claim to be a know-it-all about Buddhism. Yet I have read 5 or 6 books written by famous Buddhist monks, enlightened people. And in EVERY single one, they stressed to the utmost compassion, love for others, the desire to help other people achieve the same happiness they have attained. A main Buddhist meditation practices is Tonglen, where you devote meditation to taking in the suffering of others, developing the will to help others. To say monks are selfish is utterly wrong
@hexcane I definitely agree meditation is a great practice, the only way to achieve permanent happiness. But with that being said, you are sadly missing the point of Buddhism if you only stop there. What lies at the heart of Buddhism is compassion. I guarantee that if you devote yourself at least moderately to meditation, you will develop the idea that "I can help people feel this good too." Guarantee it. If not, well, you are not practicing Buddhism at all. Its about compassion! Peace
@hexcane I did not write this message to "annoy men like you." I just really loved that quote. I findit somewhat odd that you are watching a meditation video conducted by a man who would encourage that quote to the fullest of his abilities. I have read his book "Joyful Wisdom," and he says very similar things in there about loving compassion for everyone. This does not mean to let a crackhead sleep in your house. Compassion requires strength and intelligence. It is by no means weak.
@hexcane That was a quote the Dalai Lama said, I just thought it was very interesting and meaningful. Its everything I want to get out of life, helping others is what brings true happiness. I feel sorry for you that you can't appreciate these words, I think you are taking them too literally. The whole point is to have compassion for others, not to literally guide people or become a ship for them lol. Plus the Dalai Lama said this, not me. Peace
Joyful Wisdom and his earlier book, The Joy of Living, were very comprehensive and helpful for me. Everything is presented clearly and simply without sacrificing any important details. Thank you Mingyur Rinpoche and everyone who supports him!
For whom it may concern: after 10 years of teaching the Karma Kagyu tradition of Mahamudra exhaustively all over the globe, Mingyur Rinpoche will be entering his third 3 year retreat starting May 2011. While he will be missed by his students, the extra 20,000+ hours of practice will undoubtedly be a great benefit to all sentient beings.
Hello Mingyur, thank you for the video i often use this video to relax and expand my mind and understanding. I have no direct teacher im able to learn from and is very hard to advance my meditation knowledge. Please send any information you would believe to be helpful to me. Thank you for your time and wisdom :)
@sl2mmer this is not "some guy" who is walking randomly in a park and decided to do this. He is a respected Guru, a teacher so show some respect at least! Rinpoche = Holy Guru
Any religion could use more sincere, blessed practitioners, such as Mingyur Rinpoche. This radiant soul is an asset to the human family.

His speaking mannerisms and voice sound like a combination of Bob Ross, Yoda, and Kermit the Frog.
And he's as endearing and loveable as all of them.
Amazing indeed.

May I become at all times, both now and forever,
A protector for those without protection,
A guide for those who have lost their way,
A ship for those with oceans to cross,
A bridge for those with rivers to cross,
A sanctuary for those in danger,
A lamp for those without light,
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter,
And a friend to all in need.
