tommy steele would have run 1000 miles just to hear this man talk let alone sing ,,,it took me all that time to understand the gravity of who this man was,,i always thought was an old 50s jamacian singer ,, the internet has revealed to me he shcooled Elvis with ease, and was worshipped by the beatles ,,thanks for the video share , i am sure Erykah will be delighted
thanks KnightnWhite---I remember the first time I heard this classic while listening to the radio back in the seventies(at that time, only AMstations played the tune)----I still have the cassette.
back when this song was made im shure it would done alot better if not for racium,so lets try to be alot nicer to others, and do 1 kind thing to another each day, even if its just a kind word..remember we are all in the same world together.
What makes it so unusual, apart from the circumstances of his death and the song's release, is that it is a love song to the timing of a funeral march.
Fatima when we first got together this song was how I felt for you... Now 43 years later My love is only stronger for you and this song means more then it did then...
Amazing that when this played for the first time (at least the first time I heard it) it was credited even then to "The Late Great Johnny Ace". He was great, and we shouldn't let this great sound fade away...ever!!!
This would be a # 17 hit on the billboard charts in 1955. It also had the distinction of being the first posthumous song of the rock & roll era; meaning it would chart after the death of the recording artist. It was also sad for two reasons; he died as a result of a self inflicted gun shot wound supposedly while playing Russian roulette & the way he sings it so heartbreaking because he's pleading to his lover in an attempt to have her for the rest of his days so ironic. What say you out there!!

What a shame that this promising young singer had his life cut short. At least we have this wonderful recording to remember him
