@WayneWiblin you can try changing your usb port. thats what i did and it worked but my issue was it was not tethering in the first place. my mobile would connect but the laptop didnt have any internet connection, so i unplugged then plugged into another usb port. hope this helps
Right now, using the HD2 to tether does not need the monthly tethering package YET. They haven't found a way to stop the HD2 from tethering without additional permission. So use it while its free!
p.s. watch out for future ROM updates, they might add the tethering feature in and have you to pay.
what is your experience so far on your unlimited data plan with regard to tethering? I would suppose tethering what consume more data. In europe we have the fair use policy. So even if you have unlimited dataplan, it is still unatractive to do tethering, unless it is an emergency.
I personally did not increase my data usage much though tethering. Usually my monthly data usage is about 200 MB. The most i have used a month was actually using Skype on my phone and that was 2GB. But not USA T-Mobile will be coming out with a tethering plan for an extra $14.99 a month.
If you have a wifi sharing app and a xbox wifi adapter, it might work, but it is not recommended because the connection is really stable or the speed of the connect might not be enough to handle xbox live
I will be upgrading to this phone soon, and do you have to use ActiveSync on the computer to allow this phone to work with the computer via tethering or?
ActiveSync is actually not required for tethering. Once you connect the phone to the computer, you just click ActiveSync for it to know you are not using the phone as a external drive. And when you open the internet sharing app, ActiveSync will disconnect.
@JackyTechReview, thanks that helps alot because I was reading everywhere and every site I went to says you have to use the software that's provided with this phone to make it work and that software is ActiveSync. Do you get charged for tethering?
This phone requires the unlimited data plan from t-mobile. And tethering uses t-mobile's data plan to go online. And since it is unlimited, so there will not be extra charges for tethering.
@JackyTechReview, Thank you so much you are very helpful! One more thing though when I go on their site I don't see the $30 smartphone data plans anywhere but the representatives do tell me that it's $30 so I'm confused there.
it's pretty fast too. had it for a month or so now and didn't bother trying it. Damn. I'm watching this vid now with it tethered. (Kid in a candy store)
The phone comes with internet sharing via usb or bluetooth. While there is also an app that you can download to share it through wifi so the phone acts as a wifi router. And yes, it will work with a mac.
@JackyTechReview hey i was wondering what app is the one u need to download u didnt say the name please answer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>i really want to use it THANKS
@JackyTechReview THANKS but i was wondering cause i have the my touch slide maybe their was an app in the market i could use ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sorry i forgot to mention the different phone but thanks ... but planing on getting the hd2 but till then im using the my touch slide
too bad for me then,i think ill be having a problem in the 3g if ever use it on att.but i hope not. because i really like the hd2 , it has what im looking for. and about the unlocking,i know someone to unlock it for me.
thanks for answering jacky, and nice job on the vid..veryyy helpful.
hey jacky,do you think it will still work on other network,i mean put diff sim on that phone, because i went to t-mobile store, and they said i can buy hd2 without contract,
i have att network right now,and im just looking for a phone that has internet sharing (tethering) so i can have my own connection anywhere for my laptop.and i hope it will work on xp or vista
p.s : im using my samsung impression for tethering,it works fine, but still looking forward getting the hd2.
Jack question about the bug on the phone how much bugs dose the HTC HD2 phone have? My step sister got one for verizon and said it have so much bugs I also check out the new sprint HTC 4G but i think their services are too expensive and the T Mobile are much more reasonable monthly fee for $80 unlimited everyone. oh yes I wonder if that including unlimited international text messaging? if not what the extra services for international text messaging?

I got the phone in March, it did have a few bugs and freezes, especially when texting. And ever since T-Mobile came out with a new ROM update, my phone haven't had any problems yet.
International texting is not included in the texting plan and its $0.20 per message sent and received (price may vary to different destination). And there is no other international texting plans. But there is a international plan for minutes and it is cheaper to talk on the phone than to text.
i downloaded the CAB for the WiFi Router for my HD2 and installed it. The only complaint is that with my phone and laptop next to each other the connection drops after a few minutes and I have to reconnect again.
JACK you are the best thank you a million. I will get the phone hopefully in july I have to wait until my AT&T portable broadband contract end in July. you wil e the first to know I get the phoone so you can walk me through. so many nice features I got an iphone the 2G version I even got T mobile on it I had to unlock and jailbreak. so I am inteested of the HTC HD2 phoone
Jack another question? the T Mobile store said I need a software in order to get internet sharing is that true that I will need to get a software in order to do internet sharing? if so how do I get the softrware dose it come witht he phone when I purchases the phone?
The app is in the phone. I have to say that most of the T-mobile sales do not know about the phone. I walked in two months ago and it seemed like i was the one working there instead...and they were asking me questions.
Anyways, to share internet via usb or bluetooth is available right out of the box.
When you get the phone, go to Start>Tools>Internet Sharing and you will see the screen from the video!
Feel free to ask me anything else when u get the phone.
Its ok, i have been having trouble replying to people's comment too.
The answer to your question is that it DOES affect the internet connection if you decide to take a phone call. The computer will show that the connection have limited access or no internet access. But once you hang up, it will be be to normal and can use the internet right away.
Jack I am getting the HTC HD2 phone. if I internet share between my phone to the laptop what would happen if I recieve a phone call? can I still stay online or will it effect the connection
Jack I am getting the HTC HD2 phone. if I internet share between my phone to the laptop what would happen if I recieve a phone call? can I still stay online or will it effect the connection
I would give it an 8. (The signal do affect the speed though...ex. 3G, EDGE, or GPRS.) It is good to load basic websites and emails, DO NOT expect to download a music file or movies becuase it will take a bit of time. But even loading a facebook game is quick enough and you would be glad that you have the phone with you everywhere and you can connect to the internet.
T-Mobile requires the user to have an unlimited plan with the purchase. As you use your HD2 to tether with the your laptop, that is just the same as using your internet through the phone. There will NOT BE extra charges.
My HD 2 keeps disconecting althou it still says connected I seem to loose connection and then it comes back and then goes again. Its really anoying
