Thanks for sharing the vid. Gives a good impression of what to expect. This lens costs more than Sony's 18-55mm and 55-210mm combined. Is it worth it? Pros and cons? Cheers.

I don't know why everyone ranks on this camera?? even at 800 for the len it's still 700 less than than any DLSR camera lens in its range. I have the nex 3 and it takes better pics than all the DLSR's under 700 and as a hiker easy to carry.

I'm no pro but do you really need a flash extender for a super zoom?? LOL! Just use another Lens. As for the adapter I have one you want to buy it :( the steady shot is in the 55m and 200m there isn't one in the camera. It works great with A mount lens in manual with a tri-pod.But I decided to buy the 200 this week.

Strange that the 5H kit (NEX5+SEL18200) does include the flash extender, but when you buy the lens alone you don't get the flash extender.... is there a way to get it at all?

You would think for such an expensive lens that Sony would include the plastic flash extender. But no, you have to buy it separately. Micro 4/3rds or the Samsung NX are better options.

@BoxxyFan 4/3rds have tiny sensors compared to the APS-C size. The Samsung NX doesn't have the lens compatibility that the NEX does. $200 adapter lets you use almost any alpha lens.

@JoshKehn Are you kidding me? The NX lens lines up puts the NEX to shame. There are 4 high quality pancake NX lenses. Sony has 1 that is of terrible quality and the rest of their lenses are gigantic and mediocre slow zooms.

@BoxxyFan You obviously haven't looked at their lens lineup. 4 *slow* pancake lenses. The CZ 24mm opens up to f/1.8. They have a native 50mm at f/1.8. NEX has the above 18-200mm standard zoom. Not to mention all the Alpha lenses you can get that include AF like the CZ 24-70mm at a constant f/2.8 or the 70-200mm G series at f/2.8. Where does Samsung include quality glass like that?

@JoshKehn Samsung has 16/2.4, 20/2.8, 30/2 and 55/1.8 pancakes. Definitely not slow. The CZ 24/1.8 is about 4x longer than the Samsung pancakes and cost $1000. It's a joke. Compact my ass. Same goes for the SEL5018, its huge. Also there is no such thing as an e-mount 24-70 2.8 or 70-200 2.8. Even Samsung has a native NX mount 85/1.4. Sorry but Sony's lens line up is a joke.

@BoxxyFan Not an e-mount, an alpha mount with electronic couple adapter that gives you AF and EXIF info, which is something you won't get on the NX. You're still stuck with Samsung's subpar lens lineup. Show me a 50/1.4, a 24/1.8. And your 16/2.4 is only a half stop faster then my 16/2.8 pancake. When did pancake become a feature anyway?

The 55/1.8 pancake is far better over the 50/1.8 (not 1.4 as you claim).

You are talking about a-mount lenses. They are very big, very noisy and are NOT e-mount lenses. It makes the camera as huge as a dslr, which defeats the whole point of mirrorless. You also lose lots of light from the mirror.

The SEL1628 is terrible, softness at borders and you need to stop down to f/8. Samsung 1624 is sharp wide open.Every other nex lens is big and slow.

@BoxxyFan First, announced != shipped, and unless it's a CZ it won't compare. I was saying show me a 50/1.4 (which you can get with the alpha adapter), not that there is a native NEX 50/1.4.

The higher end Alpha lineup are anything but noisy and slow. Nice big primes, fast zooms, SSM focusing, etc. “You also lose lots of light from the mirror” — What mirror? There is no mirror with the LA-E1 adapter.

I would also disagree about the SEL1628 being terribly soft around the corners.

@JoshKehn The CZ + G names does not necessarily mean its good.Tamron 70-300USD outperforms Sony 70-300G and SAL351.8 outperforms Sony 351.4 G despite being 1/6th the price. The CZ24 is soft and not worth $1000. The Samsung 85/1.4 is amazing.

There is a mirror in the LA-EA2. LA-EA1 is MF only, unless you think 5-8secs for focus is acceptable. The higer end a-mount is for a-mount bodies. You buy NEX for small, light compact, silent lenses specifically designed for it. No such emount lenses exist.

@BoxxyFan The LA-EA1 focuses faster with SSM lenses then the SAM lenses. The LA-EA2 is only if you want continuous phase AF.

I guess you're entitled to your opinion about CZ or G lines, but frankly I didn't buy a NEX to have a camera I could put in my pocket, I bought it because it's a tiny camera with a huge sensor and a great array of lenses that overall is a smaller and lighter weight package then an A77 or similar.
