Beautifully executed idea and humour. I also like the quality of animation. Having had a failed attempt at this type of automata I am now into marble machines but I seeing machine like yours makes me want to have another go sometime.
This was a very challenging automaton to design and I am very happy with how it turned out. I went through a couple of prototypes over the course of 4 months. The tricky bit was making the intermittent sudden movements without putting excess strain on the mechanism. The skewed alignment of the man and his articulation at ankles, knees and waist added to the complexity when it came to animating the head, eyes and mouth.
