matthew said in a news article regreted selling it to HIT entertainment he said it was an animation-flop when hit entertainment had it. but thanks to richard he snapped up the rights of sooty and its in his own hands plus very good closer to the corbetts as you will ever get!

@cooljoemaz yeah Hit ruin good shows like this, Fireman Sam, Thomas and even their own production Bob The Builder by making it CGI if they turned Sooty CGI that would totally ruin things

Harry Corbett suffered a heart attack in '75, as he was already occassionally in the show(alongside Rainbow) Matthew knew he would have to give up his own career and in the £27,000 deal that followed, Harry had to agree to relinquish all rights to sooty and not perform with him again. Unfortunately neither of Matthew's children wanted to take it on.
Personally, I think Richard could work well on his own and concentrate only on Sooty, Sweep, Sue with maybe the occassional Little Cousin Scampi. I was not a big fan of Sooty & Co (though I suppose the trademark for Sooty Show stayed with Thames) I do have high hopes. Even here Richard resembles and reacts like Matthew. Good for the kids, but great for the adults. I do hope Matthew will drop in every so often. It was great when he used to throw in odd bit of nostalga for the parents.

Matthew is fully supporting the relaunch, voicing the Harry the Robot character on the recent tour and writing scripts for future television series.

but Richard Cadell does have that 'similar charisma' with Sooty now that he owns the brand and Matthew Corbett does approve of him. I've lost count how many times i've had to defend Richard from comments that can't accept someone new has taking over. If we ended puppets because the original owners retired or passed away, you've killed off all the Muppets Characters for example which isn't going to happen. Sooty is being introduce to a new generation of kids so be happy about that and accept it.
Matthew was the best presenter and noone could ever beat him.
All my childhood memories are around programs like these and todays crap is nothing compared to this program and the legendary presenter Matthew Corbett

Anyone wanting to see some of Matthew Corbett's latest TV work should watch ITV on Thursday evenings. In "Locks and Quays", Matthew is currently about halfway through a journey along the canals between Hull and Liverpool. A fascinating series, highlighting lots of interesting history and Matthew's passion for boats. Sadly, it's not available in all ITV regions (I watch Yorkshire TV).
