I play viola, clarinet, guitar, piano, drums, anything really, and I program, and I can tell you right now that to make a really monstrously badass dubstep song takes talent and patience.

While I use around a dozen other plug-ins, using ableton for sampling and synth creation is, imo, the easiest and most efficient way to become familiar with the ins and outs of sampling, wave form manipulation, synth construction, and song structuring.
