Rick Steves is a parody of himself. Lutheranism is about as vibrant and exciting as processed cheese slices. European Lutheranism will probably be about 85% smaller by 2050; in Luther's hometown and in Wittenburg barely 4% of the population goes to church at all.
I am a member of Luther's church. My great-great-great grandfather had to leave Brandenburg because he was forced to become..a Calvinist of all things!
I'm a proud, stoic Lutheran from North Dakota who is living in Bergen, Norway. I just went to Germany last week to visit some friends & got to visit Erfurt & see some locations in this video. Also drank some good Thuringian / German beer! :) Cheers to all Lutherans & God bless. @jonasbjarke did you see any actual people in church during services? Or did they just coast by on what the government pays them from people's taxes like in the rest of Europe? If clergy want to get money, they should have to ask for it. And stop tax breaks. Separate state and church.
Luther was brilliant he should have kept on questioning. He pushed the human race forward. Too bad 1000s of people had to die over which was the right way to worship an invisible space daddy.
Very cool. I just don't understand why Elcavideo is posting it...Martin Luther was all about the bible alone. He was against indulgences, purgatory, and the pope. The Elca is drifting away from the bible alone. A church named after Luther, but NOT for the bible alone. Kinda weird huh?
Thank you for posting this video. I am a history professor and I think this is a great documentary. I agree with the previous comment...accurate and impartial.
What a man, what a documentary! It's so good to see a church providing information which is accurate and impartial. This resource is as useful to students as it is to Christians. More please!

I am watching this video on February 18th, the date of Luther's death. Nicely done, Mr. Steves, as I know from watching a number of your videos.
