Before my Freshman year of college my mom and other family members pulled me aside and asked me if I was gay, since I was tired of lying to myself and others I told them yes because deep down inside I knew I was gay. I came out publicly on facebook this summer, so if someone doesn't know I'm gay now then it is all on them because I know who I am.

I feel you my favorites cousin came out to my siblings(8) also, and they didn't accept it. So he told them I was, but they hated him even more that was 10 years ago, they know and love me even more...P.S. they don't talk to him to this day..Thank you for your story , this is the first time I shared mine

I really do like this post. You should always wait until you are ready. If you afraid of being cut off temporary like me, get a job and live on your own since some parents do need time to come to terms with it and vice versa with anything you worried about.

Im 19 and Im not out to my family yet, but I am out to all my friends and associates. Im waiting till I finish college to come out to my fam because I have a very relgious Jamaican family. All I hear then talk about is batty boy this batty boy that, and it scares me too much quite frankly.

Even though My mom knew, (officially when I was 17) I felt & still feel as though you don't have to tell anybody anything to know who you are. You don't hear 'straights' "coming out." I continue to do what I do. If anybody have a problem with it, don't deal with me.

I agree. I believe everyone should come out when they deem it necessary. No one has the right to out you. I'm sorry Newnue that your sister told your family, but I'm glad it all worked out for you. I'm still not out to my family (they're Jehovah witnesses =\ ). I feel that it's no one business but my own and for now I'm okay with that.
