  • Rachmaninoff himself preferred the Mason & Hamlin piano to Steinway. His 1924 recording of his 2nd Piano concerto used a M&H

  • Is that really true? Rachmaninoff was a Steinway artist and Steinway is very strick about their artist playing on other pianos. If it is true he was smart. M&H's are better pianos than Steinways.

  • Excellent performance. And the piano certainly sounds better than any Steinway I've heard lately.

  • Mason & Hamlin is a venerated name in the USA (and yes they're well known for their powerful bass). They and Steinway are the only brands considered worth rebuilding. Sadly they're virtually unknown in Europe. It would be interesting to hear something more intimate played on this instrument.

I agree, the performance is outstanding.

  • I had never heard a Mason & Hamlin until now. It has a beautiful tone. I love it. I'm still a Bosy Imperial man but the bass in this piano is powerful. It makes this Rachmaninoff sound absolutely beautiful. I am actually going to now look at Mason & Hamlin as a viable option for my next purchase. I likes!

BTW, his playing of this sonata is great. Very good interpretation.

  • There is NOTHING like the Mason & Hamlin piano!

  • excellent playing!

  • Nice to see you in action, Shaun.

  • Great performance in full power piano.

  • Bravo, Shaun!
