  • easily one of my favorite films

  • sad thing is all these people in the movie are dead now

  • Finally bought a Blu Ray of this film. Greetings from the Philippines.

  • Is this music taken from Huppertz' original score?

  • I don't know, I find the dance incredible...Just proof of Rotwang's ability to give his Futura human appearance and her power to destroy both upper and lower classes. Even more spell-binding is the scene of Futura as Maria talking to a sea of shitfing workers' faces, hers alone, leering and ranting like some female Hitler. Then the cut to her actually doing the gestures and shifting back and forth to the wavering workers...Amazing. Lang must have seen Hitler or someone like him in 20s Germany

  • @regertz Ironically, Thea von Harbou (who co-wrote the script with Lang) became a supporter of Hitler shortly before he came into power. I'll throw this back at you. Perhaps Hitler had seen this portion of the movie and thought, I can do that even better.

  • Maria's ridiculous dance is the only fault with this flick.

  • @TRE1275 Are you kidding? Her dance is one of the most decadent scenes in the film. Sheesh.

  • @errolfan perhaps decadent for the time it was shot but in 2010, it just looks ridiculous.

  • @TRE1275 You can look at cinema from the past hundred years and easily brand something as being antiquated or dated. Be careful, because if you live long enough, those words may come back to haunt you. What we have here is a simple difference of opinion about an old movie. Who's right?... Who knows?

  • @errolfan All forms of art suffer that possibility but take this movie. In my eyes, Maria's dance is hilarious but the Robot costume and matte paintings are timeless because they still hold up and they still look cool and the story is just as applicable today as it was then. I dig the movie, just not the dance.

  • @TRE1275 Fair enough. - Mike

  • I REALLY want to se this...does anybody know WHERE it is being released? I've looked everywhere and I can't find out which cinemas, mainstream and indie, are going to show it! :(

  • @TheLatinJewLook It was shown in theaters several months back. Earlier this month it was aired on Turner Classic Movies.

  • *sniffle* F-finally...

  • I am thrilled to see this film restored, but unfortunately it looks like it's being shown at the incorrect speed. Standard frames-per-second is now 24, but early silent films (like Metropolis) were shot at 16fps or other slow rates. When shown at 24fps, the film is much faster than intended (hence the jerky, silly look). At the correct speed (which I have seen once), the motion is much more natural and elegant - unbelievable beautiful. I can't believe kino didn't fix this.

  • @nelipotfootfree Perhaps it was at this speed for the trailer? I can't imagine the people at Kino are unaware of this.

  • @nelipotfootfree I saw the restored version last night. The speed is corrected. Except for the newly discovered footage, which is scrached but still usable, the film looks just like it did for its initial screening -- except that two scenes are still missing. It is probably your computer connection that makes it look jerky. Or the way the video was downloaded here. It was a bit jerky for me as well. Anyway, you can go see the restoration without fear.

  • @MFPhoto1 I don't fear any restorations. What I'd like to know, is, if the speed is slower than the Kino DVD from a few years back. If it is (as the trailer seems to show), they finally did correct what was one of my peeves about that release.

  • @errolfan If the trailer seems slow here , it is probably because of your connection. As I stated before, I saw the restoration in a theater and it was fine. I rewatched Metropolis when it was broadcasted by TCM. The speed was perfect there as well.

The only problem is that the newly found footage is scratched badly and a different format than the rest of the film, but that can be overlooked. There are still two scenes missing. Hopefully, they will too be found someday.

  • I'm intrigued. I must admit that I've never heard of it, but now that I have, I'm very interested in seeing it. The Re-release or the original.

  • it has taken over 80 years for the missing cut pieces of this film to be found and this version is as close to the 1927 premiere as there ever has been - yay!

  • @RhiannonSL Im 16 Years Old Im Im So Exited for this...everyone thinks im crazy..But Finally..Ill get to watch Metropolis THE Complete Version.. :)

  • Metropolis a movie by the elite, for the elite

  • @allornothing323 Nitwit, whiner.

  • WHEN DAMMIT!??

  • @DaddyWalrusguy I'm going this week, in Los Angeles.

  • for a 1927 movie this was way ahead of its time

  • I'm really impressed with how hokey this DOESN'T look for 1927. This will be my best Blu-Ray yet!

  • Interesting...

...never was a big fan of silent films but I could sit and watch this one...very interesting...the look of it I mean...

  • @Jarethenator If you only ever watch one silent era film, make it this one.

  • @TrailerDelinquent It was my first... I have never forgotten it. :-)
