my sandisk cruzer 32gb usb drive says no bootable media found after i installed the iso on it using that method when i try to boot into it using F10 at startup =/
Hey hopefully you can help me, i have been having lots of problems installing this OS. First it works on virtual machines but i can not partion the disk to install the OS. i cant boot from the usb becuase i get a error saying: 'boot error'. please help me i really want this OS.
@MrEditzzzz Install it as a dual boot with Windows then You can use the feature when you click the icon on the desktop of backtrack when you get to the part of the hard drive you can install it using Side by Side or you can just use the entire drive. Alot of people have a problem installing Backtrack on a USB the reason is 1. Computer don't support booting from USB. 2. Because there not using a sandisk cruzer usb You need atleast a 4GB sandisk cruzer usb and a computer that can boot from USB

@Ralagla Obviously you or someone else set them files to be used by Frostwire.Backtrack is a ISO file which is a image file well bootable image file. If you didn't download Backtrack from the backtrack site who knows what you downloaded.
@667Atlas As long as you can format it to FAT32 properly and it shows up in the unetbootin, and if it doesn't, then either look for more answers elsewhere or give up because it's not possible! I had the same problem and I ended up getting a surprisingly cheap 16GB(around $20, and good quality!) from amazon and using that to boot.
@CretaZigman I downloaded the bt5 32 bit , and already installed it on my usb 4gb after formatting it to fat32.. but it doesn't boot .. I don't know why .. it goes directly to windows 7 ..
@nenorota Thats because in your BIOS you dont have your boot sequence set to look for a bootable drive through the usb port, go into your bios settings by hitting esc or whatever button it tells you and change your boot sequence has usb above your hard drive. hope that works for ya

I'm sorry but this is killing me. I have been trying to boot BackTrack5 R1 on my USB, and I used UNetbootin I did even step you did and I watched a lot of videos on this and they all do that same thing. But every time I reboot/restart my computer it brings me to the main screen with the selection of what you want to boot BackTrack as and I leave it on default and let its do its thing. It starts booting then I get a black screen >.< (and I know that my computer can do this cause I use BackTrack3)
@PhiberOptics I would put it on a DVD but it's just not as portable as a USB and DVD do get scratched vary easily :/. Is there another way of putting BackTrack5 on a USB without using UNetbootin? Thanks for replying :D
@miken1299 No Backtrack Runs live off the DVD and uses your Computers RAM to run the Applications aslong as you don't click on the icon thats on the Backtrack desktop it wont install anything on your Hard Drive. You will need to login using: Username: root & Password: toor
then you will need to type startx on the next screen after you enter the password of toor so that you can start up the GUI of backtrack

@miken1299 You need to use a program that can burn ISO's you can't just burn the ISO it has to be burned so that it can be bootable. You need to go into your computers BIOS and set the boot order so that the DVD boots first and then save the BIOS's settings are reboot if you don't know basic stuff like this I dunno how you will manage to use Backtrack.

@MrAckeh Backtrack comes as a ISO unetbootin copies the needed files to run Backtrack 5 on your USB stick Make sure that your computer supports booting from USB you will need to check your computer in the BIOS for the boot Order if your computer dont support booting from USB then you wont be able to use this from USB.
Booting from USB is a new feature for newer computers. If your computer supports booting from USB make the USB the first in the boot order and save the changes in your BIOS.
@MrAckeh i can tell you that you shouldn't be even attempting to use backtrack if you did that. I'm not trying to be a dick but you got "these random files" and tried opening them. you don't open them like they're a windows .exe file. you have to put them on a disk or usb and boot into it. you're probably someone who heard that you can hack with backtrack and immediately jumped to download it.
@MrAckeh You need to extract the RAR file inside should be a ISO you need to have unetbootin extract the ISO and it puts the files onto your USB stick. Once you have the files on the USB stick you need to make sure you have a computer that supports booting from USB Your better off just burning the ISO on to a DVD-R if you dont know what your doing.... Backtrack isn't something easy to use by just anyone you need some basic knowledge of linux to operate it.
I can't install backtrack I get stuck when booting to usb at the flashing dash on top left I have successfully installed ubuntu on this machine several times backtrack won't work for some reason.
@MegaDeathwarrant If you read the screen that flashing dash it wants you to type startx You might need to login using username root password toor depending on which backtrack your using.
@MegaDeathwarrant Sounds like your using Backtrack 5 RC1 i know i had a problem running Backtrack 5 RC1 on my new laptop aswell if your using RC1 i recommend you get just Backtrack 5
@AlanS181824 Thats pretty much normal and yea it will be fine However you won't be able to store alot on the USB stick though unlike live CD's data gets saved on USB sticks.
@navezworld When you put it on a USB stick you need to put it into a computer that supports USB booting most older computers that support booting from USB so you might need to burn it on a CD. Check your BIOS and see if the computer can boot from USB if it can move the USB in the BIOS to the first one. If you don't know anything about computers i don't recommend you use Backtrack.
@TehKairo Format the USB stick make sure nothing else is on the USB stick right click on the USB stick and pick quick format.
Also make sure you're using a Scandisk Cruzer they are the recommended USB flash drives make sure its 4 GB or bigger it wont fit on a 2 GB or smaller Flash drive.

@martinopresnik Possibly got messed up when it was putting the backtrack files on the USB stick i'd recommend trying to re-transfer it again.
So format the USB stick and redo it.
