@amcgarvin4life25 thats easy for you to say you ignorant fool. The boy was introduced to drugs at the age of 15... and he was the leading soloist on a tour bus at the age of 16..... He didn't have a financial adviser, Lawyers....He was not given the proper money or royalties while he lived and the money that he did make was basically stolen by corrupt record label owners like Morris Levy.... you should probably read up on your facts before you talk trash on someone who innovated music.
Wow...This Man was sooooooooooooooooooo talented...one of the trend setters....But damn that drug thing...This drug thing is even worst now...So many people with this talent are being destroyed by the drugs!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frankie Lymon was a prodigy before his time and actually had to much talent for a game that wasn't dealing the cards correct. Folk used him and his own conceits if you will hindered him but unmistakingly one of the best talents that music will ever witness. His voice was oure and untrammled
@6garbageman9 That person is stupid, but it would be better if you just ignored them. Or at least try to tell them something semi-positive, like I tried to do. I know it's hard to not reply to some idiot with no life who only likes hating on people better than them, but it's sometimes better to catch bees with honey than vinegar.
@ebernal14 It is not necessary to comment on his addiction. Who really gives a shit what he was pushing into his veins. The music is what matters! And aren't some of the greatest and well-known musicians of all-time, junkies, addicts or alcoholics?
@babesblingandbooze not sure but he said Zola at the end of this song so it had to be the mid 60s because thats when they were in a relationship so hes probably around 22 -23 here..
@brewnz NO!!! I would NOT want to see Gary dancing! In my opinion Frankie looked much better than Gary and was taller. Frankie grew to be 5'2 or 5'3 while Gary was just 4'8. But I do think that another movie needs to be made or a short bio tv series like they did with the Jackson's. Also the part of kid Frankie needs to be played by an actual kid!
is it just me or does he look a lot like gary coleman??? ....amazing young man, whose life ended so tragically. do u think he o'd accidentially or purposely??? not that it really matters now, just curiousity rearing its ugly head.
@MsJaySerene Yeah he was such a great talent. He was a better singer than MJ a am just now realizing it. He could sing basically all generas of music from crooning to r&b, and of coarse doo wop. It is very sad how he was clean for 3 yrs before he OD'ed. The movie is completly wrong, he wasnt depressed at the end he was very happy. He had just recorded 2 songs for a new album and was booked to do some shows
@MJDR4EVER i don't see why we always have to compare and say who is or who isn't better... why can't we just enjoy everybody s individual talents, without putting down one or the other. Michael and Frankie Lymon were both outstandingly talented young men, and you can enjoy them both without needing to compare either of them.
Excellent singing, and showmanship, and 26highstreet youre smoking too much of that shyt if you dont know the man was a dope addict., since you dont seem to know he was a herion addict.
Think you need to educate yourself if you think crack cocain is difficult to make.. This performance wasnt made in the bloody stone age, i think they might just have had the brains in the early 60s to mix up a few things...lol
read ronnie spectors autobiography where frankie goes around her house. he was a drunk at 15/16. shame great voice. ronnie modelled her voice on his and covered lots of his songs
Thank you for posting this - We have made it another vintage video pick of the week here at Rock-it Radio. Thank you for helping keep early Rock & Roll alive.
@TheCyclomethicone Agreed. In a way at least. Just because both of them were so young when they started out, does not mean that they should be compared.
Michael ended up in a class of his own, I agree with you there, but when Michael first started out everyone compared him to Frankie Lymon, who was before Michael's time and also died tragically (at 25yrs). He was also a very talented songwriter. Berry Gordy even admitted that he took a risk on the Jackson's on the basis of the work Frankie and The Teenagers did. Don't underestimate the influence Frankie had on the gift we received in Michael.
i feel u on that, but they compared them when michael started, not when he finish because its impossible. now everybody is saying that frankie was an influence on michael, but michael himself never said that, in fact, he considered himself a influence under james brown and jackie wilson who had successful careers
"It was 1970, a year when some of the best people in rock were losing their lives to drugs and alcohol. An older, wiser generation in show business was unprepared to lose its very young. Some people had already said that I reminded them of Frankie Lymon, a great young singer of the 1950s who lost his life that way." - Michael Jackson.
True, that quote doesn't indicate that Michael was heavily influenced by Frankie. But it does show Michael could acknowledge that Frankie was a great singer.
yea, but who cant acknowledge that frankie was a great singer. And it is that quote that we can say, well michael realized rookie mistakes, and looked pass them as he became the king of performance period. i love frankie lymon, but i just cant see him as the michael jackson of his time. influence or not.
Come on people both of them are talented.how can you compare there talent....their different.but they both are good.stop trying to put one higher then the other one.Michael was the best and Frankie too. They both will be missed.
geta fuck out of here frankie is old school not a fag ho did surgery to be whit fucking trater but the best singer is fanky blue eyes and nat king cole
Michael Jackson was more talented then Frankie. Frankie was great but MJ was a better dancer, had better stage presence, and MJ could do alot more with his voice. Frankie was great but he didnt develope much like MJ did. Michael Jackson is a bigger, better, legendary performer and has had more hits, and has grammys and is just the King Of Pop. Frankie doesn't have all that.

They were different, lived different lifes, at different times a.s.o.
That is like comparing Bach to Freddie Mercury - both were great, but you cannot compare them.
