when i join a multiplayer game it says punkbuster booted me i already tried downloading it for linux but it did not work so i downloaded it for windows and it worked but when i try to join a game the screen graphics will turn black and after a while it says punkbuster booted me so can anyone help me in how to properly download punkbuster or what graphic cards i should have or is it a bug and if it is how do i get rid of it please respond
@Jakejw93 yea well yesterday a message showed up on my computer when i turned it off and it said that my computer did not have the hardware to run ubuntu so it switched to the classic setting and i cant run the game anymore when i tried to the screen froze and i uninstalled it then tried to instal it again but it did not let me install it so can i somehow restore the settings or system recovery etc?
@navi1007 You were using Unity? I think unity has a lot of desktop effects (bad for gaming) so its probably best to stick to classic, my personal opinion but i prefer the classic desktop..
@Jakejw93 yea its kinda easier to find things but the whole ubuntu system is still a maze to me could i instead buy a gaming computer and see if i can play it would i be able to?
@navi1007 Ubuntu is really good in the end, do you duel boot or have you stuck to just Ubuntu? And if you plan on buying a whole computer i would suggest on buying hardware separately, IF you know what your doing i saved a bunch of money by doing this.. but yeah of course you could play it on a gaming rig!
@Jakejw93 well yea but i looked online and i found a tower computer case for 50 dollars and i think some other ones are cheaper but yea i already have other monitors so i guess i could use those and no i used to have windows before but it kept crashing so thats why i witched over to ubuntu but is a gaming pc the same as a regular pc or just all games?
i always had some lag with windows when i used to play joint operations i dont mind a little lag as long as the game is good and i can run it on linux
I'm not near my gaming rig now, so I apologize that I cannot post the exact settings I use)
Anyways, I like the good old Bf42 with all its mods more and play it on a regular basis on the Internet ( since 2003 now, so I'm good at it ;P ). Using opengl mode, setting some registry hacks, disabling pulseaudio helps a lot (for bf2 too, except that there's unfortunately no opengl mode). Punkbuster is not an issue anymore, since its no longer supported. Oh and, XQF!! Just like good old ASE
I have this game running in PoL for some time now (using a far older wine version). And I got rid of this texture bug, and here is how (nvidia graphics card):
the nvidia driver menu supports command line parameters, try fiddling around with the settings right before you start the game.
If the bug vanishes, find the corresponding command line parameters and put them in the PoL start script for bf2 ( ~/.PlayOnLinux/installed/ or something ).
Not the settings themselves help, but _changing_ them.
I wont see Battlefield 3 on linux

@navi1007 problem with running it in Linux, you can join servers that dont have punkbuster, plus in the video i also have graphical glitches

I would certainly never dual boot.

And yes my gaming rig runs on Linux _only_.

@Jakejw93 dual booting FTW. best of both worlds and helps with troubleshooting for either system.
