kate said she wanted to do these remakes for herself, we're lucky she decided to share them! if you don't like DC, the originals are still there and you can forget DC exists. it's hard to enjoy DC if you're comparing the songs directly to the originals. i adore DC, especially the new Rubberband Girl, Lily, Never Be Mine, among others! DC really is remarkable if you can manage let go of the originals, most of the songs take on entirely new meanings. close minded old farts :P
I miss the eccentricity such as in albums like 'The Dreaming'. Back then her music was more driven, crazy, unpredictable. In 'Aerial' she started singing about washing machines.I hope for her that the contentment in her productions reflects the contentment she has found in life. As an artist, well, let's wait for her snow-album in November.
I have followed Kate's work since 1985 and loved all her albums.....but....Director's Cut is bloody awful. Whenever an artist returns to previously released work to re-interpret, revisit, remix, or just to supposedly update it...its not a good sign. What was she thinking??? Kate, leave your back catalog alone and get on with new material.
@oFrauausSeideo Mmm, well she certainly achieved what she set out to. At first I wasn't crazy about her vocal performance in a few songs but now 'Directors Cut' has become my favourite work of Kate's since 'The Ninth Wave'. It's one of those albums that sounds better the more I listen to it (the opposite of most contemporary music, where the more I listen the more shallow and boring it seems)
Wonderful, poignant version, heartbreaking in its simplicity - but PLEASE do not cut songs off way before the end... it is a travesty and ruins the experience
@arabiansanchez She "slurs her words now" and has a "speech impediment"?? You guys are really laying it on. No one except Suzanne Vega sings in plain, clipped speech that sounds exactly like normal talking. Vega's style is so unusual as to be noteworthy. Joni Mitchell was famed for holding notes on her "n" sounds, Sinead O'Connor takes a breath in the middle of a word. These are all just style idiosyncrasies, not medical problems! Something about this album has made people lose their minds.
@0MirrorGirl A lot of people innunciate slightly out with the norm. I also elongate my 's' sounds. I'm in no way 'laying in to' my favourite female artist :-)
@arabiansanchez You said she has a "speech impediment." That's an actual medical problem, a defect usually to do with muscular problems of the mouth and face. It's not a style choice. Maybe choose your words a bit more carefully in future. People are really attacking her about this album; if you weren't, I apologize, but let's not accidentally throw fuel on the fire by using such terms as "speech impedement" if we can help it.
At last this song has been purified from the flamboyant, though well played, orchestra. . . here we have the song's core, which is 100% Kate Bush! fantastic
The difference between this and the original is as different as spring and autumn. As much as I love the delicate flowers of spring and the thick green grass of summer, they could never replace for me the sight and scent of mouldering moist leaves on a forest floor in the depths of autumn. The pungent scent of such gentle decay has its own beauty, equal to any of the sweet fragrances of youth. In the woods decay is everywhere mixed with growth, and dark with light, and death with life. I weep.
@treeoftears I rather think you missed my point, which was satirical. Perhaps when YOU are older, you'll understand that tortured "poetry" doesn't play as well as simple, well-written prose, as demonstrated here. You have drawn a meaningless comparison because you don't actually say which version is the "spring" and which the "autumn." As I said, lots of words, little sense.
And I believe I am considerably older than you, my dear.
Straight to the Heart, as always :-)

Hmmn I'm a huge Kate fan, however I'm not sure about this reworking etc.

just checking the album out now and I must say, aside from a track or two (this one and this woman's work'), I'm not super stoked.

@iamnotaplatypus It's called a speech impediment. A lot of people elongate their 's' and 'th' sounds.

@0MirrorGirl That is ok. Sometimes life is like that. When you are older you might understand but if not then it is no sweat.

@0MirrorGirl I guess you just don't like metaphors. Substitute older for wiser, spring for youth, autumn for middle age...
We are not robots, we do not need plain prose.
