"Paint" would not be the accurate verb.
I created them with various digital methods. One of which is using a "brush" in a graphics program.
Jumbling and layering and mixing and color tweaking...and pushing the image around until I like it.
The starting point photos (and a few more simple graphics) are very straight forward.
