It was an honor for me to be part of this recording ..guitars..my last recording with the icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti at S,O.S. Studios in Manhattan before he passed to great beyond....around July 1991..There was no 2nd take...the whole band was tight..there was no room for mistake...straight analog recording..other songs includes Pansa Pansa...Can't remember the rest..probably unreleased yet.. ..Kaleta.
Fela Kuti, thank you for this master piece on great African leaders like Nkurumah, Sekou Toureh and the great Burkinabe leader, Thomas Sankara. (blaise compaore, you betrayed and killed your best friend who had a great vision for Bukina Fasso and the whole of Africa, 25years after you are still the president and country remains amongst the poorest. SHAME on you blaise compaore, shame on all African bad leaders). Thank you to Fela for this song. Thanks hogan523 for this wonderful upload.
This recording really demonstrates how Fela doesn't really come across properly in studio recordings. If you never heard this tune live at the shrine in the late 80s then you simply haven't heard this tune. Same with Pansa Pansa on the b side, you need to have seen that live. There is a berlin concert in 78 he plays it in, check it out. Although it is a slightly different arrangement.
