  • Boykin spaniels are extremely intelligent and allowing them to hunt independently is a bit irresponsible. If you're harvesting grondhogs to feed the dogs, then that is fine. But there are plenty of recipes for groundhog and they're a food source for other predators.

  • @hisjr Not sure why it's not Responsible. Keeps the cows from breaking legs. I eat venison not woodchucks. Never thought about eating woodchuck either. Does not affect the dogs hunting in the field. The dogs do well in hunting birds and retrieving in the field or hunt tests. Brille for example was a second place in the Nationals Novice Class and Third place in the Nationals Intermediate Class. Not bad for a woodchuck chaser IMO. If you like woodchuck steaks, call me for one.

  • Were you hunting or were the dogs hunting on their own? It looks like the dogs are acting without guidance. It looks like a poor example of what these dogs are capable of, and a waste of a resource. (Yes I meant the groundhog)

  • @hisjr The dogs hunt groundhogs on their own. They are all over the farm. Woodchucks are not a resource unless you eat them. They dig holes in the fields, nice to trip in or break a leg, eat in the gardens, destroy crops to sell, etc. They are basically giant rats and worthless IMO.
