What a inspirational video. I have just quit mirtazepine due to gaining 14lbs in 3 weeks on it. It was the mental distress, constantly craving sugar, I was eating sugar out of a bag in the middle of the night to get a fix, like a drug. I have suffered bullimia, and recovered pretty well from it and I felt my meds were triggering this condition all over again. Now I'm ill and I have nothing, GP wont give anything else. You look amazing, I hope I can be like you one day :) xxx
I think your video is very inspirational and you are so brave and such a lovely person, intelligent and very personable. I am in my 40's, wife, mother, 'normal' and I think you are a lovely person, inside and outside and am so glad that you made this video which shows the haters and mean spirited people that post obscene comments that they are insignificant because of inspirational people like you. Bravo. :) xx
The sad conclusion i have come to is that some people need to prop up their shaky ego by being nasty to those whose difference is obvious. Racial, sex and disability discrimination is unacceptable, but fat people are constantly being attacked by drs and the media, tax fat, pay double for a seat, ban from NHS treatment to name a few 'debates', in the media, fat bating is endorsed, so out they pour from under their rocks to have a go.
i think ur really gorgeous. il be starting lithium treatment soon for my illness and im worried about puttin on weight. i used to be ripped and muscly cos i was training for a powerlifting competition nad was traiaing to b the best in wales for my age and weight class. since i taken anti depressants and anti anxietys ive put on a stone n a half and my trainings gon down hill. just wanna ask how lithium affacts ur eating habits. u r gorgeous by the way and dont look overweight at all x
Okay, let's be real here. The number one reason why most obese people are obese is because they are inactive and didn't take note of what they were consuming. 9 times out of ten it is NOT from medication.
Granted, a good number of medications do cause weight gain, and even having hypothyroidism can cause it, as well, but it really counts for a small number in the population as a whole.
That being said, I do understand what you mean when people make harsh judgments about those who are overweight. Even I have gotten nasty comments, and I was only 5 lbs overweight at my heaviest. However, MOST, though not all, can lose weight with a lifestyle change. It's about taking charge of your life and your attitude and making a change.
Of course, you're an exception to the rule, and some others fall under the same category. It's just not as prevalent as you make it seem.
Thank-you for making this video. I've been taking various medications for anxiety and severe depression and, over time, my weight ballooned. Even with exercise, the weight loss was miniscule. I began to accept myself though--even joked that there was simply more of me to love. But the ridicule and scorn that others hurl towards people with extra pounds make my depression worse. Self esteem? Dead! Yet today, because of your video, my spirit feels lifted. You're an Angel; thanks so much!
That doesn't look odd at all. That looks like perfectly normal weight gain. But at the same time, I agree that you don't look obese. You have a lovely belly dancer's shape.
I take it you're going to be on lithium for life, so embrace your size. Try belly dancing.
You are beautiful. Not in a patronising way. I think your shape is lovely.
Hey there! Thanks for the compliment. I came off Lithium in February of this year. My under active Thyroid was keeping the levels too low and they couldn't put it up any further. I'm on Tegretol SR now and my weight is very, very slowly coming off. My mate does belly dancing and I would LOVE to try but I live in a country village and can't drive at the moment. But if a class came here I would be there in a sec!!!
Thanks I just felt the it was time the stigma was lifted against us! I know my contribution is small but if I've changed one persons mind about 'fat' people, then it's at least helped a little.
I was really nervous because I was getting my five stone weight gain body out. I was also on Lithium at the time which dulls your brain so I was finding it hard to find the words.
I'm sorry, what I said before was completely wrong and out of order and i regret saying it... ...What I meant to say is that you should invest 20% of your burger king shares into a large hydraulic pump and a big vat. Then attach the pump to your ass each night before you go to bed. In a few days you will have more than enough bio-diesel created from your fat, to drive all the way to Kansas.
I should mention though that you should bring your large hydraulic pump and vat along to Kansas with you, incase your still to fat for the twister to lift you into the land of Oz. Once your there you can seek out the wonderful wizard so he can carve off chunks of fat that prevent you from clicking your shoes together (you may need tin-man's axe).
Then once you've returned back, you'll realize that nothing has changed, your still too fat and that the next bad dive into depression is only a few hours away.
I now weigh ten stone thanks to Thyroxin making my metabolism normal. I have not changed my diet or exercise as it was perfect to start with. Thanks for your comments. I'm glad your grasp of English has improved.
Thanks for this video. People have no idea how difficult it is. I started at 115lbs at 5 ft tall when I was diagnosed and over 12 years put on 50lbs as a result of 1. meds such as Depakote, Remeron, & Zyprexa, depression & meds keeping me from being physically active, and later, comfort eating. I lost it all recently over 2 years. It was really hard work & I will never look at people the same. For all I know they are going through what I did.
Depakote is killer! My pdoc tried to put me on that INSTEAD of lithium! It turned out my nurse had not told him I was trying to loose weight! Zyprexa was another Ballooner for me! I went up three dress sizes in three weeks... however on the scales I hadn't put on much weight! I'm also giving myself about two years to loose it. Thanks for the encouragement x
I think you look awesome! I know you probably don't feel it, but I really think you look good! Anyway, thanks for posting this. I'm glad someone is talking about meds and weight gain!!! Don't let that eating disorder get you!!!! Be strong! :)
Yay! Thanks! Too right! Being over weight can suck but having an eating disorder is a hundred million times worse. I'm doing well and I've lost a little weight but my mental health means so much more to me than a big tum! x
i wouldn't say you were obese at all your stomach looks quite normal actually... and im normal weight so im not just saying that because i have a fat stomach, lol.
weight gain is a main concern, most people who have been on neuroleptics (don't know lithium) most of their life run the risk of having their life expectancy shortened...I've taken ziprexa (the worst), risperdal and then Abilify...all of them cause absence of satiety in the brain, right now, after some time and a psychotherapy, I only take them in a targetted way, only when I am loosing the battle against psychosis, but I don't have mood disorders, mainly prone to psychotic relapses...
As we've talked about, I, too, thought it was okay to put on a few pounds and be mindful of a past eating disorder. Unfortunately I'm on FIVE different medications that "contribute to weight gain". I feel like it is an unresolved health issue I have with my psychiatrist. Maybe I'll go to my family doc and see what he says. Like you, I don't have a sweet tooth.
Seriously, you don't look obese and I got puffy and gained on the midsection. I'm waiting for my camera to charge to reply....

@tomlennon1000 It doesn't effect your eating habits. It slows your metabolism RIGHT DOWN. It also attacked my thyroid.

I am on an anti psychotic, and it really piled on the pounds for me! If I had been told this I may not have taken it!
Because I was depressed and anxious, and weight gain has made that worse! I was always at normal weight prior to this!
Great vid :)

i agree, the emm is very irritating. I counted the emms till 3:10 and I reached 33 emms.
This is really distracting from the main thing you're saying, if you're going to make more videos, try to work on this.
