This movies title sums up the story in a simple eloquent fashion. Towards the end of the movie, Robert Deniro's character was stalking a beautiful Buck. He finally got his gun sights locked in for the kill, but then something happened. He couldn't do it. After the war. After the loss of his friend Nicky, he valued life all life. He was no longer The Deer Hunter.
