  • at the midway point laughter slowly crept inside of me and tears started falling

    norm is a troll mastermind

  • Did the moth just go Jonathan Edwards on us? Wow.

  • Actually feel asleep watching this YAWN

  • 02:20 Conan can barely keep it together.

  • He's got a Christopher Walkin thing going on during this

  • Norms the best

  • Moths smell things with their feet so it was even funnier to me because when I heard he went to a podiatrist I thought the punchline was going to be the moth complaining that his feet smell.

  • Best joke ever

  • lol norm stole this from scrubs, JD tries telling the moth joke, he forgets the punchliine and drags the joke on until he remembers it

  • @TheSarge07aaron No.. the moth joke is way older than scrubs. And norm didn't forget the joke, it was a Shaggy Dog take on it.

  • @GODismypenis

Your penis is so small you have to part your pubic hair to piss.

  • Haha Last Time I heard That, I Fell Off My Dinosaur...

  • I hate having ADD

  • Absolutely GENIUS.

  • AMAZAZING

  • grigarro

  • i was in tears literally minutes before the punchline... awesome

  • He looks like young Muhammad Ali =)

  • @nomania LMFAO!

  • He reminds me of Christopher Walken for some reason.

  • This long ass joke makes me feel like i have an under the skin itch that you just have to wait out. Irritating as shit!

  • @GODismyPENIS Is god your penis?

  • i watched an entire cricket match by the time the punchline was said haha

  • Lol that was a good one

  • It's not that funny

  • @xxgloomybearxx100 that's why it's funny

  • The only moth joke ive ever laughed at haha

  • Funniest joke ever!

  • the bad part of the joke is the point.

  • I do not get it

  • long way to go for a really bad joke...

  • @AssortedBullshit Hey, I didn't say it was a good joke! :P

  • two class acts

  • nikes with a suit?

  • I get the impression that Norm gets bored easily.

  • i dont get it

  • @Rawrrrrrzislove The humor is in the obnoxiousness in the length of the joke. Even greater is the build up, which Norm does superbly here. It's a similar concept as The Aristocrats joke.

  • The Moth joke is better than my Clown joke. And I once made the Clown joke last 55 minutes.

  • I remember watching this the night he was on. Hilarious.

  • I hate when people compare Norm McDonald to God,

I mean hes good but hes Not Norm McDonald

  • The small laugh to himself from 1:24-1:26 is him saying in his head "I can't believe I am about to tell this entire joke"

  • @SuperDuperCrazyDude Actually, I'm pretty certain that's Adam Carolla.

  • @ginerschnitzel Actually you are both correct, Norm did it first, Adam did it every time after.

  • Fucking brilliant

  • Comment removed

  • i like the runners

  • This joke should be told by Christopher Walken.

  • @Reaper4517 I thought the same thing, it's almost an impression of Walken.

  • @Reaper4517 I was thinking the same thing

  • Norm Macdonald is a master of anti-comedy

  • The podiatrist says, "oh yeah?" I think that's my favorite moment of the joke.

  • Norm posted on twitter: According to Einstein's postulate, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Then why do I reawake?

Can someone explain exactly what Norm is talking about, like where is he coming from on that?

  • @ericlord821 Not really a joke, more an observation of life. You do the same thing over and over yet, you don't really have a choice do you?

  • @ericlord821 It's a super dark joke about wanting to die while you sleep. Awesome.

  • @ericlord821

My guess is, he's saying we go to sleep...and then wake up...over and over again...by that definition, we're all insane because we sleep

  • The only joke that matters.

  • It's hard to tell whether he's lost his mind or is a frickin' genius

  • Anyone else notice that this guy voiced Death on Family guy?

  • joke lasted longer than Kim's marriage

  • @SpecialGuy21 Aw snap

  • *Insert monty pythons "get on with it"-sketch here*

  • He put so much thought into the name Gregory Illinivic.

  • Norm is awesome, but he seems to have this pressing desire to be disliked by most of the population

  • @starterjacket003 Not really, he's just unwilling to kiss ass and be disingenous like most asshole celebrities.

  • yet more proof Norm McDonald is a genius

  • @eminemdisstopia Agreed! He could read the phone book and make me laugh!

  • i like how he has a nice suit and all but is wearing running shoes

  • The moth's boss and son have the same last name :)

  • Only Norm Mcdonald could make that joke funny. It's his way of saying things, that nasal monotone voice, the color and imagery that he puts in and impeccable timing.

I've seen a lot of comics live in my life, Norm Mcdonald was probably the best single mic performance I've ever had the pleasure to see. He takes his audience on these wonderful visual comic-scapes of imagery. He's one of my all time favorite comics; right up there with Hicks, Hedberg, Kinison etc.

  • Best. Joke. Ever.

  • what's with the Russian names??

  • This norm guy reminds me a Gary Busy, but not as funny

  • @HowdyMcGee 2/10

  • It's Norm the genie!

  • aka a "shaggy dog" story.

  • I like his white socks.

  • in general are what actually make the joke amusing. The reason Conan is laughing is not because of the joke itself, which is particularly unfunny, but the way Norm says it. Its not about anti-comedy; its about brilliant delivery. This is the same reason why comedians like Dave Chappelle and Mitch Hedberg are hilarious. For an example of the best delivery possible by a comedic actor, look no further than Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.

  • For those of you who didn't find this funny...

The reason this kind of humor works is not because of it being a long, drawn out joke or him succeeding at anti-comedy. Its because of his delivery. The joke itself (anti-comedy) isn't very funny and any other comedian attempting it would fail. This is where the brilliance, intended or not, of Norm can be seen. The way in which he delivers the joke: the slow cadence, botched pronunciation, strange mannerisms and of course, just hilarious voice

  • NOOOOOOOORRRRRRMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • norm is never funny

  • @fauxtwinny420 Norm's funny never is norm.

  • What a dick licker!

  • anyone else think norm looks and sounds just like jello biafra?

  • its called dry humor

  • good joke

  • That was not as funny as I expected it to be. Way too much build-up for a relatively weak ending. I mean, the bulk of the joke isn't funny either, and what should be punchline is in fact a real letdown.

  • @legr8est1234 You just described perfectly what Norm was trying to do here. It's like a parody of a joke.

  • @lehtinen21 So, was I supposed to laugh? Was this supposed to be some sort of philosophical lesson on society's views of humor? A parody is usually humorous.

  • @legr8est1234 That's the point.

  • @facecycle I thought jokes were supposed to be funny. No comic has ever been successful on the basis of long, drawn-out "jokes" that have horrible punchlines, just because that's the joke. Since when is being unfunny funny?

  • @legr8est1234 Type anti-comedy into google. I have wikipedia on my side, therefore I win. BOOM.

  • @facecycle I've seen anti-comedy (or heard anti-jokes) before, and they can actually be funny, in their own horrible way. For example, why did the little girl fall off her bike? Because she had no arms. Knock knock! Who's there? Not the little girl.

Anyhow, I long until the day when anti-comedians become successful. Norm's anti-joke, while it probably succeeded in its purpose, was just disappointing to anyone who listened to him drag it out for four minutes. Overall, I'm sorry I watched it.

  • @legr8est1234 Fair enough, if you didn't find it funny, that's your opinion I guess.

  • @legr8est1234

His delivery was funny as hell, As well as the context (of the chemistry between him and Conan and him 'wasting' Conan's time). A far better somewhat similar joke is him telling the Andy Richter the Swedish German joke. That joke is similar in that it's very long but the punch line and context is way funnier (it's not an anti joke).

  • @MCGeest I've Googled around, and I can't find the Swedish German joke. I'd like to hear it if it's around somewhere on the Internets.

  • @legr8est1234

Sorry for the late response: it's in my faves

    watch?v=ZC91lFeZATM&feature=channel_video_title

  • @MCGeest Thanks, that was great. Quite a bit funnier than the moth joke. I've seen other interviews with Norm, and I like him, I just didn't enjoy the moth joke.

  • Gregory Illinivic is a dick.

  • Pretty damn good....

  • .....He says, "Doc,"

    Genius.

  • People who don't get this are probably fans of MTV beach house

  • 0:58 3:48 , for the impatient

  • No it's just that you wrote according to a recent tweet Norm really did pick up this from the driver.

I have been following Norm and haven't seen that kind of tweet. But I don't know I wake up in a malaise and it might be true idk.

  • while conan was "laughing" he was like "for the love all that is holy please end this segment" then continues laughing.

  • @davidmorefield I agree. He didn't even get the "point" of the story.

  • Some of you are friggin' idots. How do you not get the humor in this? I mean I get the whole 'different strokes for different folks' thing but some of you don't even understand what he's doing..

  • don't get it...

  • This is the worst Christopher Walken impersonation ever! LOL

  • That's some Kafkaesque shit

  • Norm mcdonald had a farm eee-ay eee-ay ooo.

  • this moth joke should be the new 'aristocrats' joke haha the punchline didnt have anything to do with set up lol :)

  • Fuckin shit youtube not understanding Norm's comedy.

  • He could have told that joke in 15 seconds but he didn't. It's sort of a parody of people who tell a really long joke and think they are funny and that shit.

  • Colud have, could have told.

  • Can someone please explain why the light comment was funny?

  • @MagnaThor The point is that it's not funny and after such a long story you would expect some killer punchline.

  • @lehtinen21

    And he gave one.

  • @ThieleM It's not a killer punchline, it's barely funny punchline. He told that joke in 15 seconds.

  • @lehtinen21

Actually he told that joke in about 4 minutes.....

  • @ThieleM I corrected: Could have told. I misspoke/spelled.

  • @lehtinen21

Oh OK, in that case I apologize for my last retort.

That doesn't change that the anticlimactic nature of this punchline is what makes the joke so funny.

  • @ThieleM That's what I have been trying to say :)

  • @MagnaThor Because moths are attracted to light.

  • @MagnaThor

It is all about the way that you feel when you are living in the dark and can't seem to find your way into the light. It is like you are swimming upstream in a stream of molasses. You struggle to get every inch and keep thinking 'is it worth it? is it really worth it? Perhaps I should just let myself die since life is shit anyway" I remember being a boy and feeling this way, but i found the will to make it thats why it is funny.

also, moths are attracted to light

  • @ThieleM OOOhhhh.. Thank you thank you!!! I'm always the last one to understand these types of jokes, which is odd because I'm the most analytical person I know out of all my peers.

  • This is why Norm is a genius. Saw him do stand up a couple of weeks ago and he was brilliant...love him.

  • A suit and sneakers? Only Norm can pull that out!

  • @MisterCovek Not a Doctor Who fan, I take it.

  • ha...ha...ha *sartcastiic lauqhh !

  • oooooh NORM.

  • Who else likes Norm's voice?

  • Funny!

  • Conan "HOW LONG A DRIVE WAS THIS!?"

  • Norm: So a moth, goes into a podiatrist's office

Conan: A moth goes into a pediatrists office.

    Norm: You are correct.

    lmao

  • ok, around 3 minuets, im starting to think that either dont get the joke or....

oh haha very funny, a light -.-

  • at 2:05 i just stopped... too long!

  • @host47 Well, you sound like a funny sport...

  • Norm McDonald is the most boring douche ever.

  • I think dumbyankee's post is not true.

  • Can someone upload the Norm's part of this:

    /watch?v=7SkmnitZHhQ

  • Didn't we hear a similar joke in Scrubs about 174 years ago?

  • Norm and Tracy Morgan; best interviewees ever

  • @HanzSygnal could not agree with this more.

  • @ilylac Kind sir, could you please validate your contrarian view with ample rebuttal, and i digress...

  • Fucking rubbish

  • Shaggy dog stories are truely an art.

  • Reminds me of the aristocrat joke.

  • Would have been so much better if Conan hadn't interrupted him in the end.

  • Sometimes I'm not entirely sure if Norm is in on the joke... his humor is funny in a really awkward anti humor sort of way.

  • Moths will always be russian to me

  • legend

  • this was actually good on many levels :D

  • Am I missing something here? I know that moths go towards lights. So there was a light on at the podiatrist's office? Was that the joke? Not trying to be sarcastic or anything just want to make sure I didn't miss anything :(

  • @Airbag360 The joke is that the joke could have taken 10 seconds to tell, but the way he elongated it just for the sake of it made the simple and ultimately lame joke a real good one.

  • @Airbag360

he strings the joke out with a really depressing series of details... basically the exact opposite of funny. Then he ends the joke with a really corny punchline. It's funny on many different levels

  • @Airbag360 Imagine the cab driver just going "Moth walks into a doctor's office. Doc asks "what brings you here?" Moth says "oh, I came in cuz the light was on."" Then Norm tells the same joke... with his own twist to it... and a few minutes of bonus material... He made it gold.

  • this is a bold statement, but I'd rather have Norm there every night over Andy Richter. I love Andy and I think he's hilarious, but Norm is just so outrageously funny that I wouldn't mind it at all if it was him there every night.

  • Conan and Norm need to co-host the Oscars!

  • Are any of you guys aware of Conan's wincing/look of anger/pain during the telling of Norm's joke??? Not because it was long-winded, but because Norm may have been making an allegorical underhanded parallel that was sensitive to Conan who himslef was working for the man at NBC, paralleled as "Benalennanovich" or whatever, with dropping ratings and overall less creative freedom, resulting in an obviously less jolly Conan during his stint for the tonight show

  • @Seawave777 ...or he's laughing. Either way.

  • 155 people are Russian moths

  • Very funny!

  • "GE" ?

  • 1:28

that scheming, anti-joke telling motherfucker knew exactly what he was about to do.

  • "So, so Norm..."

    "What?"

  • Norm = GENIUS
