  • where are the toms at?

  • one of the weirdest drum setups i've ever seen, but he fucking destroys it

  • do you find playing with shoes on sort of removes you from the pedal? whats your take on barefoot playing?

  • Listened to the first 5 seconds and thought a fly was flying hazardously but gently in my earsight

  • Hey, I've been wondering. at 0:26, is that a reverse blast? Or is it just a hammer blast.

  • What inspired such an unorthodox setup?

  • Chris Adler with out the beard!

  • I'm really high right now, and this is fucking awesome.

  • I don't know why but seeing that coffee cup reassures me. It lets me know he's human.

  • At 1:38 I like how he used his right foot for the hihats, and left for the bass

  • what are the measurements on that snare? it looks deeper than 6 inches, 7 possibly?

  • god

  • too abstract

  • @shaftninja can you please give me advice on growing independence with your non-dominant side. i love your playing btw

    thanks man.

  • Always stacks of heads and cymbals everywhere.

  • I don't think he is actually reading. He probably has it up there just for show. Instead he is just thinking to himself, "whatever I play, will be fucking awesome. IMPROVISE TRAVIS, IMPROVISE!"

  • Every singles hit with those sticks landed in that tiny ass circle on that drum! How do you do it man?!

  • Is that Travis Orbin I hear being awesome? Yes, yes it is.

  • @shaftninja why did you leave periphery? <------ noob here 0__0

  • you have ONE crazy foot :O

  • did u write the drums for this song?

  • 1:00 is just unfair

  • Do you ever produce the compositions that you have written?

  • what planet are u from?

  • I happened to pause the video at :28 and freaked out at your hulk arm. O_o

  • @inimicalODDITY HULK SMASH STACK

  • @shaftninja how about a cover of unleash the pwnies?

  • what type of tabs are you reading? Standard notation?

  • bro

  • Anyone reminded of The Walk with this song, esp the second part?

  • whats up with the papers you cant possibly be reading those notes

  • @breakinknucklesruler I meant to say that, yes, he is usually sight reading. It's nuts...

  • Your drumming is like chuck norrise's beat boxing. amazing :O

  • This whole thing is completely epic. His drumming is so damned robotic. This makes me want to practice or kill myself.

  • Is Sky Eats even still together?

  • badass playing. ..

  • DUDE! you are a true drummer, dextrous on both sides. Very rare to see these days, Amazing job.

  • i dont know about you, but i think that not only is this the best tom tone but the entire mix.. i probably would have raise the left hand crash up in the mix a little bit.. (mainly so i can hear it so i can buy a great cymbal with my endoresment hehe)

once again, i love your talent !

  • HOW OFTEN DO YOU PRACTICE?!?!?!?!

  • One of my fave drummers ever, you never let me down bro!

  • I love you

  • OH my godssss !!!! you just made my ear holes cummmmmmm everywhere......AGAIN!!!

  • i like the kick drum tone sounds good so does the snare. how do you eq/compress your kick?

  • this was sick. i cant read the drum chart attached tho. i understand it works the same as standard drum notation. but when it comes to the cymbals and toms i dont know what number is what. could u attach the key? appreciate it man.

  • How are you liking those drums? They sound nice!

  • I love that Truth set dude, I want to buy one just like it! haha great playing as always man!

  • what pedals do you use? thanks

  • @kingpin8393 Pearl pro 1-V a-21 laser longboard speed king demon drives.

    Trollface.gif

  • Looking forward to hearing about your recording set up my man.....the tones are wonderful specifically for this style of music/drumming......well done my friend, well done.....K

  • @drummerkev66 Thank you kindly, Kevin! I viewed a few of your clips... terrific playing!

  • @shaftninja Travis!!!!, thanks my man. Got more clips on the way. Mostly some pop sessions and such. I play at Seacrets in OCMD with my band Star69....we know Ryan the soundman really well who knows you. Stop out some time and we can do a hang of sorts. Gonna go work on some chop busters and maybe post a vid later....fair warning, lol!!!!!

  • @drummerkev66 Big guy? If it's who I'm thinking of we're really delving into my past, haha. I'm not much of a Seacrets guy; I'm one of those boring people that doesn't drink, haha. Do you play anywhere else in this area, Dogfish Head perhaps?

  • @shaftninja Ryan Rolig singer from a band called Lower Class Citizens who recorded at Taylors studio a while back plus he does sound at Seacrets, Bottle and Cork and other area venues.....the only joints we play in that area are Seacrets (this Friday by the way 10/29) and Nottinghams in Columbia MD, Bottle and Cork or Rudder in summertime....would love to catch up sometime and talk some shop. Be well my friend......played DogFishHead a bunch years ago with June Rich and Martin Sexton, good gig.

  • Hypothetical situation. Say Matt leaves Periphery and they ask you to join again since Sky Eats Airplane is sort of dead due to Bryan leaving, would you?

  • @LunarLionheart THERE'S THAT WORD AGAIN-- "HEAVY." WHY ARE THINGS SO HEAVY IN THE FUTURE? IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE EARTH'S GRAVITATIONAL PULL?!

  • Comment removed

  • @chainsawcarroll Correction -- we gave Bryan his pink slip (not the other way around) and no more details shall be disclosed. I didn't leave Periphery because I feared they'd never 'do' anything; much on the contrary, as I always knew they'd eventually see some form of success. I left largely because of a writing process that I grew weary of after almost three years; it was too stiff and and I was offered far too great of an opportunity to join a full-time touring band that wanted me involved...

  • @shaftninja Fair enough, sorry for the "heavy" question. :P

For the record, I never said I wanted this to happen, I was just curious of what the outcome would be. Any potential new singers for yet?

  • @chainsawcarroll ...in every step of the writing process. This resulted in my having a large impact on the music to "Sound Of Symmetry" (the tune) and I even contributed a few lines, lyrically, on the album. If said process has changed since my departure, then... well, ya never know.

  • @chainsawcarroll personally as a huge fan of travis i'd rather see him stay in sky eats airplane. that's just me. periphery seems to be doing very well with matt halpern anyway. his groove-orientedness better suits periphery, and orbin's monstrous technicality better suits SEA. that's my two cents.

  • I just remembered that I wrote that outro riff. This song is crazy. Probably the most unique for drums am I right?

  • crazy man

  • That floor tom sounds heavier than a metric fat chick.

  • absolutely nuts

  • Man, you really got your moneys worth out of those demon drives; you even put the box to work...

  • @inimicalODDITY Haha, damn straight; what a great coffee table.

  • @inimicalODDITY Got a question what is a demon drive !!

  • @Tinaerwinboy Pedals man!

  • @inimicalODDITY ok i am new at this drumming stuff !!

  • @inimicalODDITY For the price, you would want to use the box :P

  • Hell yea!!!

  • Jesus cotton picking christ. That was insane. I think you should jump ships from SEA and join a progressive dejnty band. Dont get me wrong, you wrote some amazing drum parts in SEA but i feel that the music was saturated with the electronica which made it difficult to really hear everything else.

  • oh my god, i cant wait to hear your playalong to The Walk, especially the Chris Barretto version, to me by far the best version since its your drumming and Chris's sick-nasty vocals! :D

  • *Precums at the idea of seeing the playalong for The Walk*

  • ..are you a robot? That wasnt humanly possible

  • i know a good cover...

    So Sweet

  • you should do a tuning video, and mic layout

  • lol do you want me to die watching ?!

  • I agree with you on those tom tones! They sound loverly.

  • I like the Tags! "Dennis Chamers, Vinnie Colaitu, Virgil Donati" :D

  • 0.o

  • so i've been taught at least 4 ways to tune a snare and idrk which one two pick. i'm curious to your approach to snare tuning. what type of heads do you use too.

  • do you just drum or write all this amazing stuff?

  • do you use the RSE on guitar pro? Or do you just use the midi? I cant realy tell haha. I am looking into making some videos of my own songs and was wondering what you use. Because your guitars sound amazing.

  • @matnapp Wat. This is a recording from Misha's (Bulb) SoundClick site. I EQ'ed the MP3 to remove as many frequencies from the drums as I could. I compose my charts in Guitar Pro.

  • @shaftninja OHHH ok haha the way you worded it in your description I thought you wrote the guitar parts in guitar pro and was using the audio from that in this video. Sorry for the confusion.

  • when is it you get the TRX stax? cant wait to hear if it sounds as awesome as your TRX setup you have now :D

  • @Varydrummer14 I have a 16" on the way that I'm gonna compare with the 14" that I have now. I'll do a separate video for it (no playing, just a quick demonstration) in which I'll also address the offer of worldwide-shipped DVD-Rs as an option in place of the lesson video rentals.

  • @shaftninja sweet, i was looking into purchasing your lesson DVD, your playing has really influenced mine very recently. Will you adress any exercises on how to strengthen your weaker side?

  • @Varydrummer14 I can load up the DVD-Rs with whatever lesson(s) you'd like, it'll make sense after I construct the video.

  • @shaftninja that would be fantastic my friend :) i honestly wonder how you do it man, session work, SEA, teaching, and general life! You are beyond human sir :P

  • my day just got better watching this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaaahhh

  • Are those the Vic Firth noise canceling headphones? Those are the same ones I have... now if I could only have 1% of your skill...

  • @Steve128967 Aye, and here's 1% of my skill as well *channeling*

  • can you pleaseee do some more periphery? maybe some of the stuff off the album but orbinated?

  • this is terribly hard to play haha

    well done

  • travis, ive been dying to see a light cover!

  • Anyone know the Periphery song that begins once this one ends? That's heard at the end?

  • Robot sex sound!!!

Haha cool drumming but wierd rythm....

  • it all seems so random...

it's like you hit the snare whenever you feel like it.

  • @noclimate thats pretty much the game plan for poly rhythms

  • @noclimate I feel like it's the difference between playing bass for a jam bluegrass band (playing fourths in a box) and playing in, say, Between the Buried and Me. Instead of just laying a structure, he does that on top of adding more to the music through his drumming, something that is lost in the idea of each band member having a role.

  • Do Light already.

  • I like this angle way more, keep up the amazing work man!

  • The stuff you do hurts my brain more than veil of maya's breakdowns, which are probably actually ridiculously easy for you.

  • youtube should pay you for putting up such amazing videos.you are the only reason why i use youtube!

  • 0:59 to 1:02 fucking loved that mini breakdown xD

  • I actually just fell in love.

  • One of the best drummers of our time :)

  • jesus fucking christ, this is amazing!

  • sick

    drummer

    .

  • so like on my 5th time watching this video i stared only at his snare

every single damn snare hit is exactly in the middle of that tiny ass circle.

    fucking amazing

    my fav drummer <3

  • @biocideband me too :D

  • WOOH! DEMON DRIVE!!

  • I'm gonna have to agree with you on the way those toms sound, absolutely phenomenal! Your playing is killer as usual, what I wouldn't give to be able to play some of the stuff you do... I guess its back to practice for me, haha.

  • This shit sounds like it had a bit of a Dillinger-esque inspiration. Haha.

  • @TheOnlyOreoEver Hah, definitely. From Misha's SoundClick: "A sinus infection and a sudden urge to write music during that time are the muses of this new dose of 'Seizure Metal' that i call a clip. As with most of my ideas as of late, this one is still very incomplete, but i promise you, more will come!"

  • very very nice drumming !

  • Absolutely ridiculous! That's insane! Awesome job!

  • Could you maybe upload a pack with your guitar pro files? will be much appreciated!

  • TRAVIS! Can you cover an Animals as Leaders song? :D Would be so awesome. You're awesome

  • Hells yeah! "The Walk" will also be a LONG-awaited vid.

  • this is great

  • Awesome, just as always!

  • Great vid! I agree about the tom-tom tones. If your mixing this stuff yourself, there is improvement!!

  • 2:02 poor impulse control! Haha.

  • Travis, you're out of your mind!

  • the part from 2:00-2:10 is technically advanced and very hard to play...in my opinion everything else in this video is very easy...actually i play it on 5 billion notes per second with my left hand excluding the fact that I'm right handed....

  • Wish u were my drum teacher...

  • I see you've moved to the longboard configuration?

  • nice angle video. love this crazy old school periphery track...

  • YEAHHHHHHHH.

  • Wow. Great playing Travis! Any chance we could get some more Animals as Leaders play a longs?

  • Haha, this song is a completely pointless guitar wankery (except the ending rock bit).

The outro part beginning at 2:06 is incredibly sweet though.

I liked the beat displacement at 1:41-42 ;]

  • hell yes, looking forward to more Periphery.
