I've been looking for this and Motion picture 2 for the longest time. Excited by the dvd release, but I bet it won't be available in the UK anytime soon. . . .
Movie 1 was released on tape dubbed by Streamline, long out of print. Movie 2 was never picked up stateside. Both have been fansubbed and are done well but I can't say how hard they would be to find now.
Both movies should be picked up by a US company. IMO they're a must see for anyone that liked the TV series and manga.

I never seen the TV series... but I do have a "Best of Anime" CD.. the ending theme is track 10 on it.. "Sailing"
