  • Have just checked it. He died in 1996, acc. to the 'Rough Guide to Jazz' by Ian Carr et al. Worked in Toronto for a long time in the 60ies (with Eddie Condon, Wild Bill Davison), then moved back to Texas playing with Jim Cullum. Has always been overshadowed by his brother Ed; unfortunately, as he obviously was a great musician (on baritone sax, too).

  • Far better than the famous Pete Fountain version! Wasn't he Edmond Hall's brother?

  • beautiful music....

  • Long live Herb Hall!

  • the tune is played in Bb . Good luck and have fun

  • What key are you in - I like to play my acoustic bass wwith you. I really like your rendition. You have captured the essence of the song without using words, and that is fantastic.

  • Mr. Hall used to play in a dixieland group with my father in Texas. I'm sorry to say Mr. Hall passed away several years ago. A great musician and a great person.

  • Bob, This guy is great! Is he still alive?

If he is, I'd like to go out and meet him.

    Clifford

  • Then in 1979, Herb was already in his sixties. If he is stilll alive, he would not play that great clarinet anymore. I haven't heard of him anymore.

    Sorry .

  • Bob - really nice with a beautiful feeling
