Musically, this song isn't very different from the original. what I dislike most about it is the vocalist's pretty bland performance. Don't get me wrong, he's freaking awesome on Tyr's other songs, but comparing this song to the original highlights how inferior he is to Ronnie's vocal work on this song. Heri's style is more syllabic, making him sound bored in comparison to Dio's wild and unpredictable voice.
@blackspiraldancer6 It's my personal belief that a band covering a song should do their best to make their rendition just as awesome as the original. Take Primal Fear's cover of Die Young. They went above and beyond when they made it. they could've just played off the tablature, but did they? fuck no, they wrote entirely new solos, had a dual guitar opening and a tornada that sent chills up my god damned spine. not to mention the halford-like vocals which can kill small dogs.
@larawora Even though I mentioned lucana coil, that doesn't mean i like LC. Amongst Rock, I listen and like Dio and Black Sabbath way more than LC. But I like Old School (death) Metal the most :P
Whoooo! Hell yeah man, Mothering fucken ronnie James Dio, Covered by Tyr... God Damn If I knew music coudl this good I'd not of bothered getting a girlfriend. hahaha
@kenokurose autotune would make him sound like a robot (sorta). however in this song if you listen closely you can hear a 'chorus' of other voices lagging just a second behind him. its like a mix of delay+chorus, not autotune. it makes his voice sound even more powerful in my opinion. \m/
@ddd9022 dude, tyr don't use any autotune effects, what you're hearing is harmony vocals between 4 band members, (lead singer/guitarist, lead guitarist, bassist and drummer) all singing in perfect harmony, you must be a regular radio listener, because metal doesn't use any vocal effects whatsoever
@metalguitarZomg2 not true there are metal bands that use vocal effects, not usually to the extreme of the crappy pop bands on the radio but they do, Its usually just to clean up the sound a little on the record instead of pretending they can sing (you pay for quality right?) but they don't usually do it so much that they couldnt actually sing it live
@rovebeetle2 yeah but then again those aren't really "effects" thats more just producing, i was referring to like synthesizers and stuff like those "crappy pop bands" :), the reason we get better quality on studio album, is because its in an enclosed soundproof room with recording equipment, and in concerts its a larger area so you have that carried sound rather than the enclosed tidyness of an album atleast as far as metal is concerned
Technically, the lyrics to this song are the lyrics to the Rainbow version, Tyr cut off about a minute from the end, with all the stuff about going home. Not that I dont absolutely love this song anyway.
You'll never beat the original for me, the match of Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Bain, Cozy Powell, Tony Carey and the late great Ronnie Dio cannot be topped, however I love this cover. Not a note for note cover, anyone can be a tape recorder, but Tyr have put their own twist on this track. Epic, truly epic. Brilliant work guys.
@Ardanian Though Bain really shouldn't have been there... Or any other Dio album. His bass playing is always SO bloody boring and lame... You can't even hear it most of the time. They would have done well to find a better player.
@DarkWolf5250 Probably true, I like Jimmy Bain, but I agree with you. The editing made the bass almost invisible and there were probably better choices out there. Having said that he's good if not inspiring.
Sounds so autotuned.

@kenokurose That's a chorus effect, not autotune. Heri's range is plenty big enough to hit any of those notes.
