  • Unbelievably dextrous guitar playing by Johnny Marr - wow!!!

  • the bass though!!!!!

  • My first Grand Mal seizure, isn't that nice. Almost swallowed my tongue.

  • Hehe, Homer Simpson may have edited this. "Aaaaaand - star wipe!" :)!

  • Andy's bass sounds brilliant in this video, so much more 'twangy' than normal...

  • Great editing. We all know that no one enjoys actually seeing the fucking video.

  • great guitar

  • so great ..i was there ! so cool !

  • The editor / producer of this show was obviously some young self indulgent arty farty prick. Thank fuck digital editing wasn't out then, I think I would have had a fit on the floor by now.

  • my eyes fucking hurt are you serious thumbs down! the fuck! who would put the time into making this editing disaster, potentially dangerous (to epileptics)!

  • What a classic hero Johnny Marr is

  • This should carry a warning: if I was epileptic that jerky editing could have induced a seizure.

  • the band provide the entertainment , not the editing!. i hate people trying to be artistic with concert footage

  • i love the smiths and this is one of my favorite songs, but i just puked, had a stroke, and ruptured a kidney all thanks to the video editing.

  • 5 stars just because it's The Smiths

  • @anth00000 Lol yea.

  • J'avais 16 ans et avait loupé ce live à côté de chez moi ..j'ai toujours le maxi 45T avec Jean Marais en couverture...

  • Humans evolved from monkeys

  • no they were created by god

  • @TheNicholas0202 WRONG! DAMN! WRONG! Humans and chimpanzees share a common ancestor that lived about 5 to 8 million years ago. The evolution lead this ancestor to diverge into two species, one of them is the human, and other is the modern chimpanzees, and bonobos.

  • ... consequently, we did not evolved from "monkeys".

  • Maxime denie staat ier geweune te dansen, wtf!?

  • he said monkey

  • A monkey edited this video.

  • hahaha and thats a big insult for all the monkeys on the entire world D:

  • ow, my eyes x_x

  • Hey, it was the 80s. They didn't know how to edit videos more or less anything else.

Although, they did know how to make music. ;)

  • i feel dizzy as fuck from this video, terribley edited

  • Morrissey and Johnny would be the ones still playing the firestation gigs if they hadn't met Joyce and Rourke - their brilliant drummer and bassist!

    Lol!

Shameless how they got ripped off.

  • WORST EDITING EVER.

  • The one who edited this video should be shot...

  • lol

  • @sushimanse true

  • @sushimanse true shot or on better drugs holy fuck its sad

  • Apart from this song being brilliant, it's got to have one of the best lead-guitar parts in history... Johnny Marr... what can I say?

  • Cool way to edit a video, huh?

  • Stars!

  • Is there even a croud there?!

  • yeah....but a shit one

  • It's probably a recording from the soundboard ather than from the whole venue that's why the instruments sound so clear and the crowd is low

  • Braid did a cool cover of this song

  • I saw The Smiths in 86 in London, Ontario, Canada. They were mind-blowing and the best show I have ever seen since.

  • I WOULD go out tonite....But,,,,I haven't got a stitch to wear...

  • I've been to the live act of The Smiths six months before, at l'Eldorado, in Paris, May 9th 1984. But it's the first time I see this performance in Versailles. They came there after they were invited by a bunch of fans living in Versailles who created a rock magazine, called Les inrockuptibles. Which still exists !

  • it's a true shame i wasn't born in he 70s, i'd love to have been a teenager at one of the smiths's shows!

  • Marr's tone is so strange in this one. Is it the acoustics of the room? Sounds cool anyway :)

  • i think its the fact that hes using a rickenbacker guitar, which has a very unique tone. it might even be a 12 string.

  • I think he's using a les paul in this one though

  • excellent song.

  • yep he did

  • morrisey es lo mas parecido que he visto a un dios

  • I FUCKING LOVE THE SMITHS!!!!

  • I could not agree more!!!

  • did he say 'he knows so much about these things ' ?

  • Yes.

  • The intro with just the bass and the drums makes me appreciate Andy's work so much more. God, I love the fact that everything about this band is fucking brilliant.

  • Put the real video back on! Im so tired of all this big bands having their lawyers remove all the good sounding video!!!!! Greedy bastards have it backwards anyways, they are losing money posting this stuff that is not of good quality. RIGHT? Why cant we listen to a stream of a Smiths video online anymore?

  • the smiths live is just as good though

  • fucking awesome

  • I LOVE THE SMITHS.

  • bloody good tune though!

  • Oh ok, i see what u mean. thought it meant versailles the city, not port de versailles the venue!

  • they didnt play in versailles in 1984

  • Yes they did?

  • Well, this was in Paris, but at the Porte de Versaille, so if thats what you meant you are right.

  • aw man great!!! thnx for posting this!!!

  • Great Vudeo !! I've never seen.

  • Thanx for such nice music, Mr. Smiths.

  • chale los smiths era re chidos!! jaja such a great man! "but i haven´t got a stich to wear" jaja :P

  • my favorite song of all time!!

the first time i heard this in

4th grade i fell in love with the

    band =]]

  • I love the bassline, it's cool to hear it by itself at the beginning.

  • totally agree

  • I meant love them of course :D

  • ohh.. I love the smiths.. they are so crazy that its imposible to not hate them :)

  • the people who say they dislike them havnt listnd to them properly

i used to be like that

  • Good lord, who edited this? Why are you taking such revenge on humanity?

  • morrissey cant wait to takehis shirt off hehe

  • i don't know why I love them, they are so grotesque.

  • REALMENTE DAS MELHORES BANDAS DA UK.

  • good

  • this is the grossest editing i have ever seen.

  • LOLOLOL I totally agree :)

  • why not?

  • Why?

  • me encanta morrissey!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A QUIEN NO!!!!

  • THE greatest band of all time

  • I've got a bootleg audio cassette from the same year - Dublin SFX gig - and Rusholme Ruffians does segue into This Charming Man perfectly, with some groovy bass work by Andy Rourke inbetween.....

  • Have you seen them?

  • un autre classique...

  • Beautiful Song! This raw version is the best one, sounds great live too.

  • Awesome!!!

  • I have the bootleg of this show. This Charming Man flows straight on from Rusholme Ruffians, hence the interesting intro.

  • thanks! just as I remember it from 84 tour in Belfast...Morrissey still sounding a bit high pitched and JM's guitar up front. SO very much better than the ultimate single release.

  • Cheers Mate,

Another Smiths fan who remembers the old days (Glasgow 1984)

  • Yeah, just the once unfortunately. Carlisle Sands Centre, Oct. 13th '86. A date forever etched in the memory......

  • The Smiths never played in Versailles, but in Paris, Porte de versailles (Versailles' gate) which is a bit diffrent... ;)

  • Bad videowork, great show.

  • I always thought that the guitar intro to this song on the record was one of the best ever, but I really like the way they started it off with the bass on this performance. Pretty cool!

  • I wish that video didn't have seizures every one in a while. Otherwise great song.

  • vaya pelucon best band ever and ever and ever

  • how can i get this concert??

  • BEST BAND EVER.
