@39smoothgreenday sorry, i disagree. we all love old, green day, there's no doubt about that at all. however, billie doesn't make mike and tre blend in at all. he's not the leader of the band, and doesn't do anything like that. jason freeze is a brilliant guitarist, and when you see them live, having two guitars really makes the sound so amazing. it's still green day at their best. it's still punk rock. i'm not starting an argument btw :)

It sounds different. Different as in more rock feel. Every album sounds different but you know it's gonna be Green Day. It's just that in AI and 21CB, Mike said, "we've tapped into a new way of writing songs", which i agree was what was needed after more than 2 decades of song writing. To me they're still the same 3 punk brats but unlike most bands, they don't live in the past. Changing their music a little bit & having new experiences. They're are The Ultimate Band.

Kerplunk personally i think made Green Day's inevitable signing to a major label. The songs were sooo good. And they're still good now, maybe a different sound but they're still the same. I only know 2 songs from 21CB's b-side, Hearts Collide and Light's Out, and both sound like they're from the Dookie-Shenan era...

21 CB just had a different direction with Butch Vig on board. I wouldn't have it done any other way...

Wow THX...I truly appreciate that, none of my friends understand why listen to green day everyday and my brother keep on saying Green Day's a sellout and they're not playing real punk and all that stuff. They ARE PUNK. Mainly cause they dun give a shit and that's where the foundation of punk began. being the minority and not doing stuff just cause others say so.

Eventhough american idiot and 21CB had more mainstream and media exposure in this decade, they were and always be punk albums...

I think your totally right. Most people think Know Your Enemy and 21 Guns are anti-war kinda songs. KNE is still the same "Fuck Authority" type of song, just like Minority or Warning. 21 Guns is totally about the relationship between Chirstian and Gloria. The music video has See The Light lyrics on the wall which I think really connects to the song 21 Guns.

Well before Green Day signed up to Reprise Records and were still in Lookout! Records, they were a solid trio. Mike, Billie, El Sobrante. Billie did most of the solos without and 2nd guitar in the background. ;)
