FYI, in case you're a guitarist like myself. When Michael turns to the band before the before the start of Johnny B. Goode and says" This is a blues riff in B, watch me for the changes and try to keep up", it is not in B. It is actually in B flat.
@GoldtopSam Keith Richards says Chuck Berry likes to play in strange keys like Bb, not the usual A, E, D, etc most guitarists write in. He came up playing with Johnnie Johnson, a great piano player, and Bb is a common piano key
@fenderstratguy and also the fatc that if you listen chuck berrys guitar was never really in tune jus like clapton always play out of tune i think clapton does not to sure
Anyone who would like the information on this feel free to email me at svasqu01@swbell.net and I will provide you with the links to Mark Campbell and Tim May and you will see for yourself that they did the work. Tim in an interview gives Michael a glowing review for accurately fingering the parts convincingly.
@JeepRuby101. No he did not play OR sing in BTTF. See the responses to PaulisWilliam. And with a little research on your own, you will find he did not play or sing in BTTF. This has been known for many years now. Michael does play and has for many years, but states it is becoming increasingly difficult, but has recently jammed with some big names.
Special thanks are given to Tim May and Mark Campbell in the end credits. you may Also visit IMDb.com and look at the soundtrack credits. You will find it 'dubbed by Mark Campbell'(uncredited). And Tim May can be found online with this work in his body of credits. MJF was not cast for the role originally, Eric Stoltz was. The track was recorded before MJF was re-cast, they re-filmed but left the track as it was, as Stoltz did not sing or play. Stoltz was fired after a month of filming.
@PaulisWilliam. HE IS NOT PLAYING JOHNNY B. GOODE IN BTTF. IT WAS TIM MAY ON GUITAR AND MARK CAMPBELL ON VOCALS. DO YOUR RESEARCH! THIS INFO IS WIDELY KNOWN. PAUL HANSON DID THE COACHING AND PLAYED THE GUITAR PART WHERE MICHAEL AUDITIONS FOR THE PRESENT DAY DANCE AND GETS STOPPED BY HUEY LEWIS. IT IS ALSO IN THE BONUS FEATURES IN THE DVD BOX SET.
@ PaulisWilliam..Yes, Michael indeed plays, but he did not play Johnny B. Goode at the The Enchantment Under The Sea dance in BTTF. Ace session man Tim May played the guitar parts and Mark Campbell did the vocals. You will find this information in the soundtrack album. Musician and coach Paul Hanson was brought to coach Michael on the moves. I have won many a bet on this. I'd be glad to take your money as well. Michael in interviews has said it as well.
Although Michael indeed plays, he did not play Johnny B. Goode with The Starlighters at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance in BTTF. Mark Campbell is credited with the vocals and Tim May did the guitar work
Does anybody know where I can find a video where michael j fox is playing live? Not pictures .Like for example when he was playing guitar at 0.46 of this video.
dude i love mjf and i love the beatles. i wish there was some way to see him in that beatles themed set there were pictures from...that would just make my life. im guessing its not available anywhere?
you want to actually read what i'm writing? im not talking about the music in the background. some of the pictures are from a charity event he did where he and other celebs played beatles music. thats what i want to see. Notice how i said "..that beatles themed set THERE WERE PICTURES FROM..."
@JeepRuby101 No he didn't play it in BTTF. That was Tim May on the recording. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Michael J Fox actually could play it because he did an outstanding job pretending to play the guitar part in the movie.
@JeepRuby101 Michael J. Fox did not play this in the movie. A studio guitar player named Mark Campbell played it. Michael J. Fox does play guitar so he was able to make it very realistic but the actualy recording was not done by him.
@silat13 The song was pre-recorded for the film, but MJF actually said he mimed it, note for note, because he wanted it to be believable. So, its not too difficult to think he could do the same years later, with the guitar actually functioning.
@JeepRuby101 Actually it wasn't him who played in the movie. He does play but someone else did the guitar/vocals. Look it up! Watch the blu ray behind the scenes.
He can play guitar. He can act. He can do backflips. He can play sports. He can be a nerd. & he can time travel :O
