@tyresewifey44 The guide is good, but is outdated. The Arena now depends on team skill. Meaning if you win, you go up in division. If you lose, you go down in division. Think of it like Halo 3.
The rating, however, is just about the same. The difference now is that the rating doesn't affect your division placing. Read Bungie Weekly Update 2/18/11 to verify.

@rBaILeY1421 because Arena does not rank you by your daily rating, Arena ranks you by how much your team wins. If you lose 5 out of 10 games and have a rating of 1500 you will not be the same as a team that wins 10 out of 10 with 1200. The team that won 10 out of 10 games will have a higher percentile/better division.
It's simple, play more games, win more games. Move up in divisions.

Like many others who have posted, I disagree with the part about rushing and not worrying about deaths. Rushing more often than not gets you double /triple teamed, and deaths takes away precious game time and takes you away from the action where you want to be with your team spewing destruction as a team.
I play like, what, maybe 4or 5 arena games per day, and usually win with at least 10 kills, but don't know where to find my rating, I looked on B.net and it is not there. Perhaps you can shed some light on this? My GT is EDSLocklear btw.
let me just say this.. dont worry bout deaths? well the more you die, the more likely you are to lose, especially if you play with n00b team. say you play well. lets say you get a rating of 1525..if you had lost that same game. that 1525 would be 1464. if your rating drops "only" 4% if you lose. that means a potentially good game could turn ugly. even 1600 rating turns into 1504.. an "awesome" game into an "above average" game. just think about that
when you get a low avg for example 39 or something like that you can level faster up cant you? And youre playing with noobs so you get more kills...^^

I got a rating of 1660 today because I whored the power weapons. then I won 7 games in a row and my rating stayed the same. I like the older ranking system...
so If you had say 1556, 1580, and 1660, Your rank would be 1599. So if you play a lot more games but none of your ratings are above 1556 (a) then you won't get a higher rating, it'll stay the same.
ok i Just got 7 rated days in "Arena Doubles"with an average rating of 1550 over the days..and now finaly i got into a division..ok but i just got the Iron Devision..i was like wtf!..off course i didn't expected to be onyx, but silver or Gold would have been nice..since i saw a lot player which frequently had about 1350 and got iron as well!???

@germanlovemachine It depends heavily on the skill of the players you are playing. Playing noobs and getting a decent rating doesn't mean you'll get in a good division. I have been Onyx in every season and top 2% in Arena and 4% in Doubles.
@germanlovemachine The daily rating has no effect on your division it is simply your best games. The arena counts all games good or bad. the top 50% of players go up an invisible rank and the bottom 50% go down an invisible rank.in short the more you play the more likely you are to be put in a good division. about 20-30 games a day will be enough for onyx if you are top 50% at least 2/3 times.
@germanlovemachine I assume it is like the starcraft 2 rating system, considering the color coded divisions. If it is the divisions are divided into brackets where a certain amount of people play each other. To advance to the next divisions, you must stay atop your bracket for a certain period of time, say 1-2 weeks. If that is achieved, you rank up to the next division. this goes on till you hit onyx (diamond for sc2). I'm not 100% sure its the same so take this with a grain of salt. cheers!
@germanlovemachine I got onyx first time, with ratings only around 1400, its more about who you play against and how you play consistently. Every game counts so if you play one game really bad, and play 4 other games well, your rating average may look good, but the system knows you can play bad. Anyone can have a good game against anyone, to hit gold or onyx you want to be consistently winning against people within those divisions. For more detailed info feel free to pm me :)
@germanlovemachine so... u can get 1700 every day but its not so esay.. the rating system is different... the number u have near your gamertag is only your % in the division ... in fact the division u are is set by some factors: first of all u have to be in the first 2players in double arena or the first 4in team arena(for example,you played a match with A,B and C..your rating at the end is better than BandC) ;second u have to not quit much games; its important to win the game;

@cambow13 lol, stealing a kill helps both players on the the team, as long as one gets an assist. its a good system that does work, at least you know that if someone steals a kill an you get a assist you both get equal points.
people say that it sucks your wrong,you earn about the same which is good (as not everyone likes slayer, so why should they be penalised for not liking it) an with the commendations it makes people vary the game modes a bit more
You are good if you play alot. thats it i was a brigadier and my friend was a major. i have played 7 days he has played 8 i am wayyy better than him but since he has played more he has a higher ranking. This is a very stupid ranking system it rewards you with nothing, unranked games give u between 500-700 credits if you go positive K/D, and so does ranked, ranked is useless. hyou can see ur rank when u hit the back button on unranked matches and on ranked its by ur name,thats the only difference

There are so many flaws in this video, it's not all just about the formula he posted. Which actually isn't the right formula. It was used in the Beta, but was changed in the final game. But it takes more than just what he said into account.

There's no need to type in information when you're dead, when you can check your rating at any time during the game by just looking at the scoreboard.

guys i got a question!
ok i Just got 7 rated days in "Arena Doubles"with an average rating of 1550 over the days..and now finaly i got into a division..ok but i just got the Iron Devision..i was like wtf!..off course i didn't expected to be onyx, but silver or Gold would have been nice..since i saw a lot player which frequently had about 1350 and got iron as well!???
if somebody could explain me in which Division i get with what rating..or sth like that..that would help me a lot!

@germanlovemachine it counts all your games not just your good ones so your average rating is about 1300 :)

@germanlovemachine It depends heavily on the skill of the players you are playing. Playing noobs and getting a decent rating doesn't mean you'll get in a good division. I have been Onyx in every season and top 2% in Arena and 4% in Doubles.

@germanlovemachine The daily rating has no effect on your division it is simply your best games. The arena counts all games good or bad. the top 50% of players go up an invisible rank and the bottom 50% go down an invisible rank.in short the more you play the more likely you are to be put in a good division. about 20-30 games a day will be enough for onyx if you are top 50% at least 2/3 times.

@germanlovemachine I assume it is like the starcraft 2 rating system, considering the color coded divisions. If it is the divisions are divided into brackets where a certain amount of people play each other. To advance to the next divisions, you must stay atop your bracket for a certain period of time, say 1-2 weeks. If that is achieved, you rank up to the next division. this goes on till you hit onyx (diamond for sc2). I'm not 100% sure its the same so take this with a grain of salt. cheers!

@germanlovemachine I got onyx first time, with ratings only around 1400, its more about who you play against and how you play consistently. Every game counts so if you play one game really bad, and play 4 other games well, your rating average may look good, but the system knows you can play bad. Anyone can have a good game against anyone, to hit gold or onyx you want to be consistently winning against people within those divisions. For more detailed info feel free to pm me :)

@germanlovemachine so... u can get 1700 every day but its not so esay.. the rating system is different... the number u have near your gamertag is only your % in the division ... in fact the division u are is set by some factors: first of all u have to be in the first 2players in double arena or the first 4in team arena(for example,you played a match with A,B and C..your rating at the end is better than BandC) ;second u have to not quit much games; its important to win the game;

terrible ranking system. you are no longer competeing against the other team....you are now competing against your own teammates to steal kills. Fuck arena. Halo 3 wasn't perfect, but the ranking system was still a lot better.

@cambow13 lol, stealing a kill helps both players on the the team, as long as one gets an assist. its a good system that does work, at least you know that if someone steals a kill an you get a assist you both get equal points.
people say that it sucks your wrong,you earn about the same which is good (as not everyone likes slayer, so why should they be penalised for not liking it) an with the commendations it makes people vary the game modes a bit more

You are good if you play alot. thats it i was a brigadier and my friend was a major. i have played 7 days he has played 8 i am wayyy better than him but since he has played more he has a higher ranking. This is a very stupid ranking system it rewards you with nothing, unranked games give u between 500-700 credits if you go positive K/D, and so does ranked, ranked is useless. hyou can see ur rank when u hit the back button on unranked matches and on ranked its by ur name,thats the only difference

There are so many flaws in this video, it's not all just about the formula he posted. Which actually isn't the right formula. It was used in the Beta, but was changed in the final game. But it takes more than just what he said into account.
