And speaking of a deity, the tree of life contains many fruits and the people who have plucked one fruit off of the tree and claimed it as the only one are today wondering why their fruit is rotting in their hands, (Christians, Hare Krishnas, Muslims, Buddhists).

  • 'Be kind' is the right attitude to have but I must admit I find it hard to want to be so to yobs who batter, spit and throw the remnants of takeaway food down my front door at weekends. Rugby club patrons - little brains, little dicks, little hope versus someone with a baseball bat who'd prefer not to have to use it. I pray each night for those I care about and for peace and love.   • Agreed, qvide. I've been a fan of hers for nearly 35 years, mesmerized by her voice all the while. I'm not the handsome young lad I was then, and she's not the slender young girl she was then. That said, she still sings like an angel. If I knew Britteny Spears' website, I'd send it to atfatw. Then he'd have something to watch while he's having a wank.

    There is one "layer" of these sweet beings infiltrated into every mainstream religion who advise to look WITHIN for goodness and spirit--to BE the spirit rather than to strive to GET to it.

    These beings are the MYSTICS. Sufis in islam, zen in boudhism, or the christian mystics, they all are minimizing formal dogma and advise trigerring something within the heart to shine out in the world WHEREVER YOU MAY BE!

  • Maddy, you are so right, Jesus said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" in other words BE KIND, I was brought up Catholic, convent bred, then Catholic Pentecostal, now nearing 70 I feel and think similar to you, yes things can get very twisted and people can get dogmatic in their faith and very upset when one does not agree with everything they say, but in the end it all boils down to one thing, "man must walk the road and find his own salvation,"

  • You are entitled to your opinion but you haven't experienced the things I have. Contemptuous dismissal of anything prior to investigation keeps a person forever in ignorance-I used to be like that but near death experiences gave me an open mind. I do hope you step out in faith by having a go at reading The first four chapters of the New Testament and see if the power of those words moves you in any way. It did for me.

  • yes, He is the source of kindness...and she is actually quoting from scripture inspired by Him.

    I get what she's saying, and agree with much of it...but what she rejects about the so-called church I reject too...

    however, what about Jesus?...people, including ourselves, are always going to be imperfect...so why model belief on them? That is not what Christianity is based on.

  • For what it's worth Maddy is more or less spot on when talking about the christian relidgion. Baigent and Licoln show that Jesus may have been married to Mary Magdalen. Eisenman shows that the brother of Jesus was James and he was the head of the church after Jesus. So the church itself has taken many twists and turns to reinterpret itself mainly through the efforts of St.Paul.  If as Maddy says we leave this baggage behind we approach a greater truth.
